World Fisheries Trust

World Fisheries Trust Our mission is to support and build the equitable and sustainable use and conservation of aquatic resources, both locally and internationally.

We do scientific and social research, contribute to policy development and work on field implementation of solutions. Our particular expertise includes bridging the divide between technical solutions and societal realities, including tools for enhancing community engagement, public awareness, and societal equity. The combination of local and international projects provides unique insights for this work, as well as providing a conduit between Canadian and international partners.

Our Story

On Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland of BC, we are active with Seaquaria Ocean Education, a World Fisheries Trust initiative that focuses on bringing the ocean into the classroom. Via workshops, class programs, and setting up of Seaquaria in local schools, we help promote children’s hands on environmental education.

We are also involved in several research activities in the local area. From monitoring Olympia Oyster populations in the Gorge Waterway, to developing a Portage Inlet Cutthroat Trout Initiative, we are excited to further human understanding of marine and freshwater ecosystems.
