Dance Victoria brings the "World's Best Dance" to the Royal Theatre and supports new dance creation for the international stage from its studios.

From Dance Victoria Studios on Quadra Street, Dance Victoria:

- Commissions new works at the local and national level
- Offers creation residencies to local dance artists and visiting professional dance companies
- Offers insight into the artistic process with its Rough Cuts series featuring new works-in-progress

- Partners with our dynamic dance community to bring you Dance Days, a 10-day festival offering free dance classes all over town plus performances by cutting-edge choreographers and companies

On Nov. 6 + 7, Dance Victoria kicks off the 2026/27 Dance at the Royal Series with Athens-based company The Lion and the Wolf, founded by acclaimed choreographer Christos Papadopoulos. ⁠

Winner of the 2025 Sadler’s Wells Rose International Dance Prize, Papadopoulos is celebrated for his signature choreographic style and striking musicality. In "My Fierce Ignorant Step", ten dancers build an ecstatic soundscape of breath, voice, and movement, pulsing with the euphoria of being alive. Inspired by the sonic memories of Papadopoulos’ childhood in Greece, this exhilarating work invites us to rediscover youthful optimism, boundless possibility, and the desire to belong.⁠

Join Out Innerspace co-Artistic Director David Raymond for a free contemporary dance workshop on Friday, Oct. 23.

Raymond will guide participants through some of the core values of Out Innerspace's shared movement practice, exploring the creative approaches and movement principles that shape the company's distinctive style. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn movement material and explore inspirations from the company's newly premiered work, "Rhino".

What a way to IGNITE! Dance Victoria’s 30th Anniversary Season! ✨

We were thrilled to welcome 150 guests to a sold-out evening at the Esquimalt Gorge Park Pavilion, featuring the premiere of "IN/YANG" by Chrystal Dance Prize winner Eric Cheung and Kinui Oiwa, delicious food and drinks, all-vinyl sets by DJ Bill Stuart, and plenty of time to celebrate together.

Thanks to the generosity of our guests, donors and supporters, IGNITE! raised over $50,000 to support Dance Victoria’s work bringing bold, world-class dance to Victoria—including more than $15,000 raised through our Raise the Paddle with the wonderful Alison Ross.
