🕯️ It is a sad day when we lose a member of the CineVic family. We are mourning the passing of Chen Wang Chen W - a dedicated, talented, and passionate CineVic member for more than a decade, and also served on our board of directors. His vitality and dynamic energy both on and off the film set makes this loss all the more confusing and devastating. But his amazing spirit lives on in the countless number of indie film projects he contributed to as a cinematographer and in other roles. We will be collaborating on a more fulsome tribute in the coming weeks. Our hearts go out to his family and everyone who is currently grieving in the local film community. We will miss you dearly Chen 💕

Join us for the world premiere of new short movies created on celluloid Super 8 film by local participants!

The One Take Super 8 is a decentralized network of analogue filmmaking challenges and screenings presented across the globe. Since its founding in the year 2000 it has inspired the creation and screening of thousands of films in more than 50 international locations. CineVic proudly brings OTS8 back again for its 7th edition on Vancouver Island.

Earlier this summer, participants from Victoria and the surrounding region were given a camera, a roll of film, and one week to create their own 3-minute Super 8 movie. The only catch: no editing. The filmmakers had to capture their scenes in order with no second chances, and they’ll witness their work for the first time along with the audience at two live screenings!

Short Circuit is open for submissions! For the 2027 festival we are once again recruiting short film submissions from local filmmakers in our home region of Vancouver Island and Gulf Islands. Your film will be considered for inclusion in both the main Short Circuit festival in Victoria, as well as tentative screening opportunities with our touring partners across Vancouver Island.

Come to the Haus of Owl Dream Lounge for an Open Screen where Victoria’s local filmmakers, musicians, and video art creators gather to share and celebrate their work!

Open Screen is an opportunity for local filmmakers and community members to screen their films on a wall-to-wall projector. We’ll have snacks, shows, and Q&A segments with the filmmakers throughout the night.

Whether you’re premiering a new project, sharing a passion piece, or coming to enjoy the work of fellow creators, Open Screen is a place for connection, inspiration, and community support for local artists.

Want to screen your film, music video, or video art piece? Send your project (10 minutes or less) to [email protected] to have it scheduled for our show on August 28th. The first 8 films submitted will have first priority to be screened, and any projects submitted after these 8 will be waitlisted for screening as time allows. Each participant will get a chance for a quick Q&A to share any insight into the creation of their film.

$10 tickets, or free admission for members of Haus of Owl and CineVic. HOO members log in to claim your free ticket, and CineVic members email [email protected] to RSVP.

Get your tickets for CineVic’s Presenter Series – Art for Art’s Sake: Summer Sci-Fi Edition

A focus on creating, showcasing and learning for the fun of it. Join us for the screening of newly created, short sci-fi films made by local participants. Eight filmmakers have signed up and are currently hard at work creating their movie magic. On July 8th, each filmmaker will have 10 minutes to present their work, followed by a short Q&A and sharing some stories about their process.
