Register now for the One Take Super 8 and make your own short analogue film this summer!
Sign up for a chance to participate in Victoria’s local edition of a worldwide initiative that invites community-driven film creation, and provides a screening opportunity for anyone from curious newbies to professional filmmakers — or those feeling nostalgic for the grainy “home movies” of decades past.
Spots are limited for this fun, non-competitive event that lets you make your own 3-minute movie, created on actual celluloid film! No experience necessary. Participants are given a single film cartridge, and access to a Super 8 camera from CineVic for one week over the summer. In September all the films are sent away for processing, and in October they’ll premiere at a local screening.
Registration Deadline:
Monday June 1st 2026 @ 11:59pm

>> What is the One Take Super 8?
Super 8 film took the world by storm in the mid-20th century as the first handheld motion picture recording medium, and today the resurgent format remains an analogue escape from our digital world. The One Take Super 8 was started in the year 2000 in Regina, Saskatchewan — since then it has inspired the creation and screening of thousands of films in dozens of international locations. CineVic proudly brings the OTS8 back again for our 7th edition on Vancouver Island.
>> What does “one take” mean?
• You may choose to film your movie in one continuous shot, or plan it all out scene-by-scene, or simply record a collage of images.
• No editing and no re-takes. If you film it, we see it, all in the same order it was shot.
• No peeking – you will see your finished film for the first time along with the audience at the screening!
