Victoria Cool Aid Society

Victoria Cool Aid Society On Facebook Monday through Friday, 9-4:30, except holidays. We build homes, lives and community. In 1968, the Cool Aid Hostel opened its doors.

We create opportunities for people who are homeless or living in poverty. We make a difference through housing, health care, support and emergency shelters. Our mission was to provide short-term, emergency shelter to transient youth travelling the country. In 1972, we launched our first dental clinic. Throughout the 1980s, Cool Aid grew as one of British Columbia’s largest non-profit organizations

, with an increasing focus on the development of safe, affordable housing. Fifty years after our initial launch, Cool Aid has developed a successful reputation by creating accessible, affordable, and alternative housing programs and holistic health services for people who need it the most.

“When I walked into my apartment, I broke down. I didn’t think I was worthy of something like this.”

For decades, Marc used substances to cope with childhood trauma. He wanted recovery badly and after treatment, he stayed sober for 7 months. But without a safe housing option, he returned to the streets and relapsed within weeks.

When he got the call that he had been accepted into Johnson Manor, our substance-free recovery housing, Marc felt hopeful for the first time in a long time.

“Somehow, if I didn’t believe in myself, they did,” he says.

With a place to heal, Marc is building a life he’s proud of—attending counselling, connecting with others, and giving back as a volunteer, supporting people facing what he once faced.

“This place has changed my life. I’m living proof that this kind of program works.”

A huge thank you to Gilead Sciences!

We're so grateful for Gilead's generous sponsorship of our Health + Homecoming Gala and for their ongoing partnership that goes so much further than one night.

In addition to the Gala, Gilead supports our nurse-led hepatitis C programs, and they're currently helping fund our hep C outreach work in Duncan and Nanaimo.

Looking ahead, we're excited to be joining an HIV medication study with them, launching in the new year!

Partnerships like this make a real difference in the lives of the people we serve.

Please join us in welcoming Crow's Coffee, now open at The Chestnut (210 Gorge Road)!

At just 21 years old, owner Camellia Lagan brings her entrepreneurial spirit and passion for people to the neighbourhood. Her vision is simple: to create a welcoming space where residents of The Chestnut, neighbours, and visitors can connect over coffee, conversation, and community.

We hope you'll stop by, say hello to Camellia, and help make Crow's Coffee the community gathering place she envisions. ☕
