🚨 Wild ARC Reminder: AI Isn’t Wildlife Rescue !

We know you want to help when you find wildlife in distress , and we appreciate your care and compassion. But, there’s something really important we need to say:
Please DO NOT rely on AI tools or online “advice generators” when trying to help injured or orphaned wildlife.

AI doesn’t assess the actual animal in front of you, and it can never replace the training, permits, and hands-on experience of licensed wildlife professionals. Following incorrect advice, even with the best intentions, can unintentionally cause serious harm or reduce an animal’s chance of survival.

❗ Wildlife situations are often way more complex than they seem.
What looks like an abandoned baby might not be orphaned.
What seems like “helping” might actually cause life-threatening stress, or injury
What works for one species could be deadly for another.

🚫 And one of the most important rules of all: NEVER feed baby wildlife.
Feeding the wrong food, or even the right food the wrong way, can cause choking, aspiration (food going into the lungs), severe illness, or death. Baby animals have very specific dietary and feeding needs that only trained rehabilitators should manage.

💡 Here’s what to do instead:
✅ Call the BC SPCA Animal Helpline or your nearest licensed wildlife rehabilitation centre (like Wild ARC!) as soon as possible

Our team is trained to assess each situation properly and provide guidance that gives wildlife the best possible outcome. When in doubt, call the people who do this every day.

This merganser baby just found their flock! 🐥🐥🐥

Mergansers are incredibly social birds and do best when they’re with others of their own kind. When Wildlife Rescue Association of BC reached out with a lonely merganser duckling , we already had two young mergansers in our care, so it was the perfect match!

Now together, this trio can grow, recover, and learn from each other, giving them the strongest chance at a successful return to the wild.

We’re so happy to share a glimpse of their pool time as they settle in and start bonding! 💛

🌊 Today is World Oceans Day!

🐳 World Oceans Day is a day to recognize the important role of the ocean in our everyday life, from producing at least 50% of the planet’s oxygen, to the biodiversity found beneath the waves.

🪸 With fished populations depleted and coral reefs destroyed, marine animals need our help! Not only are we taking more from the ocean than can be replenished, but we are also harming the wildlife species that depend on it for their survival.

🦭 While the ocean is facing some very large problems, there are things we can do to help make a difference, from saying no to plastics, keeping our distance from marine mammals, and more.
