The Urban Food Table is an informed group of individuals that helps guide the City of Victoria in supporting healthy food systems within city boundaries and supporting initiatives within the Capital Region District. Mission:
- The primary purpose of the Victoria Urban Food Table is to help guide the City of Victoria’s strategic direction related to food and pollinator policies and actions. We view

urban food production as an important part of developing a healthy, ecological, and sustainable food system.
- By bringing together organizations and individuals with an interest in food we are able to share information, align our efforts, and catalyze the ongoing development of supportive targets, policies, and programs in the City.

The UFT is looking forward to showing off our newly painted logo and veggie-inspired bunting flags at future events! Creative juices were flowing on a warm summer evening after setting up in the shade of some big trees and having our feet in the grass. Thank you to Madeline, Jess, Emma, Kat and Goose for bringing these to life 🫜🎨🫟

The UFT was honoured to co-host the Tea Creek film screening with Story Money Impact in downtown Victoria this year 🎬🍿

Tea Creek shares the story of Jacob Beaton, his family farm, and a powerful vision to revitalize Indigenous food production, economic interdependence, and relationships to the land - practices that sustained Indigenous communities across these territories for generations.

Indigenous Food Sovereignty is the inherent right of Indigenous peoples to define, control, and rebuild their own food systems. It extends far beyond food security by centering traditional knowledge, cultural practices, and reciprocal relationships with the land. As climate change and the ongoing impacts of colonization continue to affect our ecosystems, supporting Indigenous leadership is essential to building resilient and abundant food systems for everyone.

We are deeply grateful to Tiffany Joseph, Erich Kelch, and Brianna Bear for generously sharing their knowledge and experiences in Indigenous food systems during our panel discussion. Thank you for your wisdom and leadership.

If you weren’t able to attend the event, you can still support this important work here on the island. The Rematriate Stewardship Project is seeking land and funding to continue its work supporting Saltwater Salish women through land-based healing, language revitalization, and stable housing. Please visit the link in our bio to learn more and, if you’re able, make a donation.

A huge thank you to The Mustard Seed Street Church for providing the delicious rescued food, Councillor Krista Loughton for your knowledge and enthusiasm, City of Victoria for supporting us with the cost of the venue and to all of the volunteers, promotional partners CRFAIR and the community members who helped make this evening possible 💚
