Our dedicated volunteers were very busy in 2025 and made significant improvements to the habitat in several View Royal parks. We started and finished the year in Burnside Watkiss Park. Here are a few photos of the volunteers in action. More pictures from work parties in other parks will be added soon.

Thank you to our incredible volunteers for the tremendous habitat restoration work that you accomplished in 2024. During 35 work parties in 13 View Royal parks, you removed approximately 125 cubic metres of invasive plants. That’s an astounding amount, especially considering that we focused mainly on small weeds and seedlings at some of our sites.

Many of you also participated in 7 events in 6 parks organized by our partners, the Greater Victoria Green Team. You planted hundreds of native plants and filled dozens of the large white tarp bags with invasives.

Some volunteers also worked independently in your favourite parks and natural areas in View Royal and elsewhere in the CRD.

Your efforts to improve the region’s habitats are significant and much appreciated! Here are some pictures of you in action. I apologize that I didn’t manage to get good photos of everyone and there aren’t any images from the GVGT events.

Sadly, we said goodbye to one of our most dedicated volunteers this year. Simon Bluck's first View Royal work party was in Edwards Park on June 3rd, 2018. It was one of many parks in the region where he worked hard to restore natural habitats. Over the years he contributed more than 800 hours to our project!

Simon was difficult to photograph because he was usually in the densest patches of invasive plants. Fortunately, he sometimes emerged to show off large "trophies" that he successfully extracted, and to put weeds in our collection bags.

We miss Simon's warm personality and sense of humour as well as his passion for making the world a better place.
