Special Bird Service Society Providing access to education, recreation & stewardship opportunities for our Global Majority & Q***r communities🍥

At the Special Bird Service Society we exist to hold space for one another, provide educational resources and challenge stereotypes by elevating the various diaspora of BIPOC & 2SLGBTQ+ community’s histories, voices and values, in nature. Through a decolonizing, anti-racism centred approach, we base our society’s actions on our commonly held principles of; ecological stewardship, mental health adv

ocacy, equitable access to education, as well as food justice and security advocacy. Through connection-forming, relationship building and generational knowledge transfer, we aim to normalize marginalized communities use of the great outdoors through providing access and education. Thereby reclaiming our connection and access to nature, as a recreational healing space, by offering organised bird watching walks, hikes, outdoor adventures and community, connection-building events.

HÍSW̱ḴE SIÁM for sharing with us, it’s always a pleasure learning from & with you, SNEMIŦIYE. We come away with so much knowledge imparted, from language to plants, to natural history to food & anything in between. We can’t thank you enough for your sharing with us & our members last month especially about ḰȽO¸EL (Camas) & its importance to you, your communities & Indigenous Peoples from near to very far.

As part of our community work at SBS, we’re helping organizer another fundraiser for Dominique & her family to attend cultural knowledge exchange program focused on ḰȽO¸EL on Whidby Island with her relatives. It’s important that as a community that engages a wide range of facilitators including Indigenous Knowledge Holders like Dominique, that we also support their opportunities to learn & be facilitated for, especially in inter-generational, culturally relevant, informed & safe spaces like the one is attending.

We’ve got a video coming shortly to explain the fundraiser in full, in the meantime - you can donate directly to & 100% of donations are going to her & her families costs in attending a Camas Culture Camp this month, in the states including travel, food & lodging. E-transfer: [email protected]
