Victoria Immigrant & Refugee Centre Society (VIRCS) is a non-profit organization founded in November 1989 by three former refugees. We help new immigrants, refugees, and Canadian citizens settle and adapt in Greater Victoria. We acknowledge and respect the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples on whose traditional territory our organization sits and the Songhees, Esquimalt, and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples whose historical relati

onships with the land continue to this day. Our multicultural staff serves an average of 3,000 clients annually from all over the world. We provide a wide range of services to our target group, assisting them with everything from settling in Greater Victoria to finding a job. Over the years, we have developed positive relationships with other organizations, service providers, the local business community, and the community at large. We gratefully acknowledge the funding support of the federal and provincial governments.

Today is World Refugee Day.

At VIRCS, we honour the strength, courage, and resilience of refugees who have been forced to leave their homes and rebuild their lives in a new country.

Refugees bring knowledge, culture, skills, leadership, family, and hope to our communities. When we welcome refugees, we help build a stronger and more compassionate Canada.

This World Refugee Day, we stand with refugees — today and every day.

We’re better together.
