Thank you to everyone who supported our Mental Health Awareness Month PhilanthroPINT with 49 Below Ice Cream 49!

We’re excited to share that the Peppermint Cookies & Cream flavour sold out in just 10 days — all 105 pints! A special thank you to Dan, Kelsea, and the entire 49 Below team for making this collaboration happen. We’re grateful for their generosity, creativity, and commitment to supporting mental health initiatives in our community.

We love working with locally owned businesses that are passionate about giving back, and this partnership is a great example of what can happen when community comes together. Thank you again to everyone who purchased a pint and helped make this fundraiser such a success.

We’re excited to be partnering with local favourite 49 Below Ice Cream for Mental Health Awareness Month 💚🍦

Founded in Victoria after owner Dan was inspired by the gelato culture during a trip to Tuscany, 49 Below has grown into a beloved local business known for making everything in house, supporting local farms and businesses, and giving back to the community.

Together, we created a special Peppermint Cookies & Cream flavour for May. For every pint purchased, $2 will be donated to the Courtnall Society for Mental Health, where we support small grassroots mental health charities in our community.

This flavour is only available for a short time, so come by and try it while it lasts (offered at both Oak Bay and Vic West locations!)💚

TBT to the day we were awarded the Island Health Mental Health and Substance Use Community Service Award. We were grateful then and we’re grateful now.

Talking about Geoff, Russ, and Bruce’s father Archie can be tough, but it’s an important part of our story and the reason we stay committed to this mission. Thank you again for the nomination and for your continued support.

TBT to last week where we were awarded the Island Health Mental Health and Substance Use Community Service Award. We were grateful then and we’re grateful now.

This was more than just an award — it was an opportunity to share the story behind our “why” and connect with other people and organizations who truly understand and relate to the journey.

Talking about Cheryl, Geoff, Russ, and Bruce’s father Archie can be tough, but it’s an important part of our story and the reason we stay committed to this mission. Thank you again for the nomination and for your continued support.

We are still feeling incredibly grateful after yesterday’s 2026 Island Health Mental Health & Substance Use Community Service Awards. Being recognized with a Special Recognition Community Service Award—especially during the 10th anniversary of these awards—means a great deal to all of us at the Courtnall Society for Mental Health.

Our work has always been rooted in connection, and our partnership with Island Health has been a powerful example of what can happen when people come together around a shared purpose. The Archie Courtnall Centre and the Patient Care Centre at Royal Jubilee Hospital stands as a reminder of that collaboration—supporting individuals and families in our community when they need it most.

As Geoff shared, “When we raised money to build the Archie Courtnall Centre, I thought if this could save one family from having to go through what we went through as a family, then it will be worth it.” That sentiment continues to guide everything we do.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way and continues to believe in the importance of accessible, community-focused mental health care. We’re proud to keep this work moving forward.

Mental Health Awareness Week is May 4–10, and this year’s theme is Action. Not just awareness—action. The small, everyday things that actually support mental health.

Checking in on people. Making space for honest conversations. Noticing who’s been quiet lately. And not assuming the ones who seem fine are actually fine. It doesn’t have to be big to matter. And it starts with how we show up for each other.
