Another great day of flying for our 223 Red Lion Air Cadets at the Vernon Airport.

This weekend, our cadets took to the skies for some FAM (Familiarization) Flying.

FAM flying (a 30 minute prep & plane inspection and 30 minute fight) gives cadets the chance to experience flight firsthand, learn about aviation, and see our beautiful Okanagan from a whole new perspective.

And the best part? Air Cadets is FREE for youth ages 12-18! No experience needed, uniforms are provided, and it’s still not too late to join!

A little community support goes a long way! Our Squadron Sponsoring Committee (SSC) helps fund FAM flying and other local cadet experiences through donations and fundraising.

Mark your calendars 🗓

Every year, the Snowbirds traditionally perform a private “home closer” airshow at 15 Wing in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, for family, friends, and alumni to close the season at their home base.

This year, for their final show, we invite you to watch via live stream as we say a heartfelt goodbye to the CT-114 Tutors.

Our cadets spent two beautiful days gliding in Salmon Arm, getting some incredible time in the air and seeing the Okanagan from a very different perspective. Check out this stellar landing!

A big thank you to everyone who helped make the weekend happen, and to our cadets for their teamwork, enthusiasm and willingness to jump in and help. Weekends like this are a pretty good example of what Air Cadets is all about.

And yes, you can still join us! If you’re 12 to 18 years old and interested in flying, aviation, outdoor adventures, leadership, music, marksmanship and trying things you might not get to do anywhere else, come check out 223 Red Lion Squadron in Vernon.

The 223 Red Lion Squadron kicked things off over the last two Parade Nights with an action-packed run through the Confidence Course, and we couldn't be prouder of the teamwork and determination on display!

To our brand-new cadets who just joined us: congratulations on stepping out of your comfort zones and tackling these obstacles head-on. You showed amazing courage and proved you are ready for anything!

A massive shoutout also goes to our returning and senior cadets. Thank you for stepping up, setting a fantastic example, and cheering on your new wingmen every step of the way. Seeing you mentor the newer recruits is exactly what this program is all about. 🤝💪

Building confidence, testing our limits, and supporting each other as a team—this is how the Red Lions do it! We can't wait to see what the rest of this training year brings.

Pre-teen & teens: looking for something new to do? 223 Red Lion Air Cadets is welcoming new cadets ages 12-18 in Vernon!

And yes, you actually get to fly (Gliding & powered flying!)

There’s also:

- Band
- Marksmanship
- Survival & camping weekends
- Aviation, navigation & radio skills
- Drill team
- Leadership, friends & a whole lot more

No experience needed. You don’t need to know anything about airplanes, marching or Cadets before you show up. That’s kind of the point!

One of the things our cadets love most? It’s primarily youth-led. There’s nothing quite like watching an older cadet confidently lead, teach and take charge - and thinking, “That could be me someday.”

We meet Thursday nights from 6:30-9:00 pm at the Vernon Military Camp and we’re starting back up in September.
