Our region is facing an active wildfire season. Thousands of people have been displaced, families across the North Okanagan have lost their homes.

We've launched the Wildfire Response 2026 Fund: a trusted, local way to help evacuees now, and support the rebuilding ahead.

Every gift is tax-receipted and 100% granted locally.

Multiple wildfires are affecting the North Okanagan. Give today to the Wildfire Response 2026 Fund, a trusted, local way to support evacuees and rebuilding, with every gift tax-receipted.

We didn't want to wait until we're gone to make a difference."

Janet Armstrong came to Vernon in 1983 for a job at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. Lloyd Davies followed two years later. "I followed Janet," he laughs, "and I still like hanging out with her."

Forty years on, they're still a team. Their net-zero home runs on 41 solar panels, built well ahead of BC's energy standards to prove it could be done. And their giving works the same way: ahead of schedule, on purpose.

In 2024, Janet and Lloyd created a Flex Fund with Community Foundation North Okanagan so their generosity could reach the community now rather than sit invested in perpetuity. In one year it has distributed more than $170,000, from food security and youth mental health to the arts and solar panels on affordable housing.

A day of honest connection. 🌿
Seven community foundations came together for the Connect BC Thompson Okanagan Regional Gathering β€” sharing what we do well, where we need help, and where we can grow stronger together.
Facilitated by Yolanda Liman and captured live in this incredible illustration by Anna Gorman, both of Drawing it Out β€” swipe through to see the day, section by section: our shared hopes, our honest strengths & needs, the opportunities we mapped together, and the commitments each foundation is carrying forward.
πŸ’› Grateful for this network.

Cancer Society's Wheels of Hope program needs volunteer drivers to help local cancer patients get to and from treatment, both in Vernon and to Kelowna, Salmon Arm, and Enderby. 🌷
The schedule is flexible, from once a week to once every other week, and drivers are reimbursed 50 cents per kilometre.
If you have a vehicle and a little time to give, this is a meaningful way to support neighbours when they need it most.
🌼 Apply at volunteercancer.ca or email [email protected]
Because taking on cancer takes all of us. It takes a society.
