For those of you who could not attend the "Women in Trades" presentation at the Vernon She Shed, here is a small recap.
We were honored to have amazing guest speakers who provided a great insight into their journey in the trades industry, shared programs and opportunities for women wanting a career in trades.
Okanagan College "Women in Trades" offers a program called ACTION Project (Apprenticeship Completion Training, Innovative Opportunities and Networking) that supports female apprentices in construction and manufacturing trades. A federally funded program.

Janine Dahl is a Shop Teacher at R.E. Mountain Secondary School
She attended the BCIT/Technology Teacher Education Program (TTED) which is a 2-year program, earning a diploma and transer to UBC for an additional year for a Bachelor degree in education. Link is attached for further information.

Sandy Morris owner of Sandmor Construction inspired us with sharing her journey. Sandy got her start with a local electrical contract ompany. Working her way through many experiences in the construction field, and working with a couple of local builders as a Project Manager she started her own business, Sandmore Construction. She has been involved in the building industry for over fifteen years. sandmorconstruction.ca
McKenzie is a Project Manager at Bellamy Homes. She shared her passion for her job and how she was inspired at an early age by her mother who had drawing designs displayed on her work table and pursued her interest to become a Project Manager.
Debbie Meyer, Careers Coordinator at Charles Bloom Secondary School spoke about a unique program offered at Charles Bloom Secondary School: Forestry/Trades Program. The greatest goal of the Forestry/Trades Program is education and exposure to the essential skills of the workforce.
