Kelly spoke passionately about the Starfish Pack Program, our partnership with Turning Points, and the importance of hearing real-life stories of impact that help keep this work moving forward.

Meet Mary Jackson, President of the Kalamalka Starfish Society.

At our 10th Starfish Day celebration, Mary shared a powerful reminder of why this program exists:

"For most families, Friday feels like relief. But for some... Friday is when the worry starts."

Under Mary's leadership, Starfish now supports children across the North Okanagan through more than 240 weekend food bags each week, ensuring families have one less thing to worry about. As Mary reminded us, this program works because of people, the volunteers, donors, schools, and community partners who come together to make a difference in the lives of local children.

Thank you, Mary, for your leadership, passion, and commitment to ensuring no child goes hungry on the weekend.

At our 10-year celebration, Donor Coordinator David Spencer reminded us of something simple but powerful: β€œEvery dollar matters.”

He spoke about the many moving parts that keep Starfish running each week: volunteers, board members, community partners, and especially donors who make it possible to fill backpacks with food for local children.

David also shared that just $25 can help provide food for a child for a week, showing how even small contributions add up to real impact over time.

It was a strong reminder that Starfish only works because a community comes together to make it happen. ⭐

The Kalamalka Starfish Society has always been powered by people who put children first.

When it came time to celebrate 10 years of impact, Darryl O'Brian quietly stepped forward and covered the cost of the event so that no program funds would be used.

That means the resources raised for Starfish can stay focused where they belong: helping provide weekend food for local children.

It's a reminder that behind every Starfish bag is a community of people who choose to help, donors, volunteers, partners, and supporters who believe that every child deserves access to nutritious food.

We're grateful for Darryl's generosity and proud to have people like him in our corner.

Thank you, Darryl. πŸ’™
