Vernon Airport Appreciation Days — Celebrating 80 Years!

The Canadian Rockies Ninety-Nines were proud to be part of Vernon Airport Appreciation Days, celebrating an incredible 80 years of Vernon Regional Airport!

Representing our Canadian Rockies Chapter in the South were Betty Lee Longstaff, Roberta Drinkwater, and wang Kelly Sheret. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate aviation, connect with fellow pilots and aviation enthusiasts, and honour the history and legacy of this special airport.

Here’s to 80 years of flight — and many more to come!

Spent the day at the Vernon Flying Club for rust remover recurrence training — always a great reminder that there’s never a finish line in aviation learning. Grateful for the opportunity to keep sharpening skills alongside such a welcoming and knowledgeable flying community.

So thankful we were able to hold a Canadian Rockies Ninety-Nines chapter meeting with such a fantastic turnout of members. It’s pretty special getting a group of passionate women pilots together to connect, support one another, and share our love of aviation. , Roberta Drinkwater Betty Lee Longstaff Katie Paolucci Townsley Kim Williams, Kelly Sheret Keren Wang

Joy Lofthouse, one of the last surviving pilots of the Air Transport Auxiliary, flew a Supermarine Spitfire again more than 70 years after World W*r II, in an emotional moment that honored her service and the overlooked contributions of women in aviation; her legacy stands as a reminder of courage, skill, and the quiet impact of those who helped shape history during one of the most critical periods in aviation.
