SOSBA closed down in 2018. This page was created by the Chief of the Camp at the time of its creation. That's about as official as it gets! Falls of Clyde Camp's Charter was received on August 6th, 1906. Current meeting place is in The Scottish Center, 1610 Stephens Avenue, Verdun, QC, Canada. Our Camp Regalia is Douglas Dress Tartan. The Camp was named for the collective name of four "linn" (wate
rfalls) on the river Clyde, near New Lanark in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. Active for over 100 years, the camp has changed from a male-dominated slate of officers to a healthy mix, and sometimes to the distaff side, including, at times, the Chief! Way back in 1906, the Chief was Alex Fraser and the Secretary-Treasurer was D.W. Robertson. In 2016, officers were: Chief Theresa Normandin, Past Chief (PC) (became 2016 Montreal District Chief) David Renwick, Cheiftain Bro. Lawrence Idzikowski, Acting Chaplain and Treasurer PC Alice Sparrow, Recording Secretary Past District Chief (PDC) Marilyn Cantley, Standard Bearer Bro. Malcolm Mackay, Senior Marshall PDC Lynn Shepherd, Junior Marshall PDC Jim Shepherd, Senior Guard Bro. Milton Begg, Junior Guard office currently vacant. 2017 saw a major shake-up with several officer resignations. Only time will tell what the future will unfold. In 1968, the camp met in St Cyprian's Church on Morgan Blvd, then the Scottish Center on Stanley Street, and for a brief time at the Canadian legion on Mountain Street. The Center re-located to the building on Stephens and we settled in with the rest of the camps. We meet at 8:00 p.m. on the 4th Thursday of January through May inclusive and September through November inclusive (i.e no meetings June, July, August, December). Just before closing the business portion, we take out the "birthday bank" and once a year we pick a charity to receive the year's contributions. After the business portion is completed, there is a themed social time when we have tea, coffee and snacks such as sandwiches and sweets, scones, shortbread, crudités, cheese and crackers, or sometimes wine and cheese, as well as activities like putting contest, Burns night, pirate bingo, bake sale, penny fair, cooties, storytelling, sandbags, jellybean jar guessing, holiday decorating (for example, Easter eggs or mini Halowe'en pumpkins). We try to be an active Camp, organizing 3 events per year. The Christmas Dinner-Dance-Party is the 1st Saturday of December, and is always popular. A few years ago, we switched from having a gift exchange to providing a donations box for a charity voted on by our camp members. Our February event used to be a Valentine Social, but in recent years we have been tinkering with things like Games Night and Trivia Time. Typically, we also do do a Hallowe'en Social with prizes for costumes, but due to popular demand, we may tweak that into another Trivia Time with added Hallowe'en questions! As with the other two camps (Mount Stephen and MacKenzie), we try to do our bit to help keep the Scottish Center successful And of course, every year we choose a charity to which we donate whatever we are able. Again, as with the other camps, ours provides Delegates to the Montreal District Committee, and Directors to the Scottish Center. These entities and the other camps hold events of their own, and we all do our best to support each other.
