We are saddened to learn of the passing of longtime member Colleen M. Curran after a brief but fierce battle with lung cancer. Colleen served as Chairperson of the Membership Committee for five years, from the 1999 season through the 2003 season and was Chairperson of the Greeter/Regalia/Masses Committee for a portion of the 2004 season.

In addition, Colleen was Past President Bob McKay’s life partner and wife. Together they raised daughter Penny and, as grandparents do, doted on grandchildren Charlotte and Rebecca. Colleen will be missed.

Please keep Bob, Penny, and family in your thoughts. We will advise when funeral details are known

NEW SAVE THE DATE: We are thrilled to announce our annual Irish Heritage Day is coming this autumn! Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 26th, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Saint Colomban City Hall. This special celebration is made possible through a generous grant from QAHN. We have some wonderful things planned, so stay tuned! More details are on the way! ☘️🗺️🎻👞

☘️ Rain or shine, our UIS members showed up today at the Montreal Highland Games!

It’s always wonderful to see our Celtic communities supporting one another and celebrating the traditions that bring us together. A sincere thank you to the organizers of the Montreal Highland Games for another fantastic event, and to our incredible UIS members who braved the rain to represent the United Irish Societies of Montreal with such enthusiasm.

C’est toujours un plaisir de voir nos communautés celtiques se rassembler, s’appuyer mutuellement et célébrer les traditions qui nous unissent. Un sincère merci aux organisateurs des Jeux des Highlands de Montréal pour cette autre belle édition, ainsi qu’à nos formidables membres de l’UIS qui ont bravé la pluie pour représenter avec fierté les United Irish Societies of Montreal.

☘️ An exciting day for Canada-Ireland 180! ☘️

Today brought some wonderful momentum as preparations continue for Canada-Ireland 180.

UIS President Greg Giroux had the pleasure of meeting with Elyna Bergeron, the Embassy of Ireland’s Francophone Officer, over lunch to discuss the upcoming commemorations and the many opportunities to celebrate the enduring friendship between Canada and Ireland.

The timing couldn’t have been better, as today’s exciting announcement from Minister Marc Miller highlighted the launch of Canada-Ireland 180 and the exciting year of celebrations ahead. You can view the announcement here:

Aujourd’hui marque une belle étape dans les préparatifs de Canada-Irlande 180.

Le président de l’UIS, Greg Giroux, a eu le plaisir de rencontrer Elyna Bergeron, agente des affaires francophones à l’Ambassade d’Irlande, lors d’un dîner afin de discuter des commémorations à venir et des nombreuses occasions de célébrer l’amitié durable entre le Canada et l’Irlande.

🇨🇦🍀 The UIS is incredibly proud to cheer on two outstanding members of our community as they represent Canada at the GAA World Games in Waterford, Ireland!

A huge congratulations to our 2026 Queen, Sarah Crotty, and our Membership Chair, Shannon Pine, along with their amazing teammates. Your dedication, talent, and passion for Gaelic Games are an inspiration, and we couldn’t be prouder to see you wearing the Maple Leaf on the world stage.

Best of luck throughout the tournament, we’ll be cheering you on every step of the way. Make Canada and the Irish community in Montreal proud!
