The Catherine Polson Memorial Scholarship for Community Activism
Originally established in 2019 by UIS Immediate Past President Lori Morrison and her sister, Kayra Morrison, this scholarship was renamed in 2023 in memory of beloved community activist Catherine Polson.
Catherine will always be remembered by the United Irish Societies for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to her community. Although her time with us was far too short, the impact she made on those around her continues to inspire us.
The scholarship recognizes an individual who demonstrates that same spirit of community, someone who gives of themselves, lifts others up, and works to make their community a better place. It is a fitting tribute to Catherine and to the values of compassion, service, and community that she embodied so beautifully.
This year, the scholarship has increased to $2,000, thanks to the generous support of Catherine’s father, Dr. George Polson, and St. Patrick’s Society Immediate Past President Pamela McGovern. We extend our heartfelt thanks to both for helping us carry Catherine’s legacy forward.

La Bourse commémorative Catherine Polson pour l’engagement communautaire
Créée à l’origine en 2019 par la présidente sortante de l’UIS, Lori Morrison, et sa sœur, Kayra Morrison, cette bourse a été renommée en 2023 en mémoire de la regrettée militante communautaire Catherine Polson.
Catherine restera à jamais dans le cœur des Sociétés irlandaises unies pour sa gentillesse, sa générosité et son profond dévouement envers sa communauté. Bien que son passage parmi nous ait été beaucoup trop court, l’impact qu’elle a eu sur les personnes qui l’entouraient continue de nous inspirer.
Cette bourse vise à reconnaître une personne qui incarne ce même esprit communautaire: une personne qui donne de son temps, soutient les autres et contribue concrètement à rendre sa communauté meilleure. Il s’agit d’un hommage tout indiqué à Catherine et aux valeurs de compassion, de service et d’entraide qu’elle incarnait si admirablement.
Cette année, la valeur de la bourse a été portée à 2000 $, grâce au généreux soutien du Dr George Polson, père de Catherine, ainsi qu’à celui de Pamela McGovern, présidente sortante de la St. Patrick’s Society. Nous leur adressons nos plus sincères remerciements pour leur contribution à la perpétuation de l’héritage de Catherine.
