Our Story

Johnson Children's Services was organized to address the growing deficit of services to troubled children and families in our community. The Mission of Johnson Children’s Services is to promote the growth of children and youth while strengthening the family unit. Johnson Children’s Services was organised to address the growing deficit of services to troubled children and families in our community. Our Goal is to help each child achieve full potential and permanency by providing a structured, nurturing, normalising environment that meets their individual needs.

About Us

Who we are? Johnson Children’s Services (JCS) provides treatment foster care throughout East and Central Region. JCS is designed to work with children and youth who have serious emotional and behavioural problems including chronic delinquency, aggression, substance abuse, and chronic AWOL. JCS has high adult to child support ratios, high structure and supervision, and evidence based treatment. For these reasons JCS is able to care for children and youth that are commonly placed in group homes.

Because of its uniqueness Johnson Children’s Services is able to design a totally individualized treatment program related to the goals of CAS. Individualized treatment plans include:

Point-and-Level System: Application of behaviour modification

Wraparound: All of the systems affecting the child (school, neighbourhood, peers, parents of origin etc.) are included in the plan of care.

Trauma Treatment: JCS supports and if necessary finds psychotherapy for the child but also educates the foster parents to understand the child’s behaviour and emotional reactions within a trauma framework.

Social Reciprocity Training: Where children are taught how to interact with their peers, through a variety of strategies including small group social skills training, direct instruction, and coaching in the naturalistic setting

Teaching Academic Enablers: Identifying barriers to academic success such as performance anxiety, organization, and following through on homework

The Foster Care programs are community based wherever possible; they are designed to address the specific needs of the young people living within one of the many homes. The program uses relationship and therapeutic supports as part of the nurturing process. The programs build on a balanced perspective that includes work, education, recreation and therapy. Johnson Children Services acknowledges and protects the rights of the young people to their own culture, including the customs, beliefs and practices that make up that culture; we make every effort to design programs and services to make the young people living with us feel comfortable.
