This House of Commons petition aims to make funerals more affordable by increasing the CPP Death Benefit, which has been stuck at $2,500 since 1998 even though funeral costs have more than doubled.

The petition will close March 17. It will be tabled in the House of Commons and requires a government response. The greater the number the signatures, the stronger the message to parliament.

Please consider signing the petition and sharing it with your family, friends and colleagues.

Durham police officer shot

Early Sunday morning a Durham regional police officer was shot responding to an "armed person call" in Oshawa. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the officer and their family and our colleagues in the Durham police service.

Canadian public health care is in an existential threat because of Alberta's new law that violates the Canada Health Act and brings in U.S. style private (for-profit) health insurance. In Ontario, public hospitals are under existential threat by the Ford government that is forcing cuts and closures to them while shifting more than $300 million to open new for-profit clinics to take over their core services. In these for-profit clinics, elderly patients are routinely charged thousands of dollars when they go in for care.

We only have 7 days left to get as many signatures as possible on our online petition to the House of Commons. We demand that the federal government enforce the Canada Health Act in Ontario where the Ford government is violating it with their private clinics.

Every signature counts. Please help make this a strong petition.

We currently have about 10,000 signatures, but that is nowhere near enough. Have you signed? Have you asked your neighbours, your family, your colleagues?

Please help make this a strong petition that gets the attention of the federal and provincial governments because of the sheer number of people who have signed it. Please help us not to fail in this endeavour.

To make sure your signature is counted, please open the email that the House of Commons sends you after signing the petition. Then, click on the blue text that says "Please confirm your support to complete the process." It is easy and only takes a few minutes.

There is no obligation on the part of the House of Commons or any Member of Parliament to authorize the publication of an e-petition or to present an e-petition or a paper petition to the House of Commons. Neither the House of Commons nor any Member of Parliament authorizing the publication of an e-...
