Professor Avinoam Bar-Zion of the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology is exploring a new way to deliver treatments directly to brain tumours.

His ICRF-funded research, supported by The Fernande and Marco Zevy Family Career Development Award, uses focused ultrasound and microbubbles to temporarily open the blood-brain barrier – a protective barrier that can prevent many cancer treatments from reaching the brain.

His team is developing advanced imaging and AI-based approaches to make this process more precise, predictable, and repeatable, with the goal of improving drug delivery to brain tumours.

This work could help open new possibilities for treating brain cancer with therapies that currently struggle to reach the tumour.

We’re grateful to the Zevy family for helping support the next generation of cancer research and researchers 🙏

On Simchat Torah we finish the Torah and begin again the very same day. The cycle never really ends, it just moves forward.

This is something that we recognize in the work we fund. Every answer a researcher reaches opens the next question, and the next study begins.

We are excited to announce the 25 ICRF-funded scientists advancing the future of cancer research for 2026-27.

These researchers are asking bold questions across every stage of cancer science, from understanding the biology of cancer to developing new approaches to detection, diagnosis and treatment.

Their work today could lead to tomorrow's breakthroughs, and we are proud to support them every step of the way.

Today is World Cancer Research Day. For ICRF, there is no more important message: The answer to cancer is research.

Every breakthrough begins with a question. The answers come from researchers willing to ask those questions, and from the people who believe in their work enough to fund it.

For over 50 years, ICRF has invested in groundbreaking cancer research across Israel in the pursuit of better treatments and cures.

Today, we celebrate the researchers, the discoveries, the questions, the breakthroughs, and the hope that comes from continuing to push cancer research forward.

This World Cancer Research Day, join us in investing in what comes next.

On October 18th, Simon will take on the Toronto Marathon in honour of his mom, Cheryl Grammer, who he lost to pancreatic cancer last year.

Simon is raising funds for pancreatic cancer research at the Weizmann Institute of Science, supported through ICRF, where Dr. Ruth Scherz-Shouval's team is studying how pancreatic tumours weaken the body's immune response and how to restore it, so treatments like immunotherapy can work as they should.

"I have continued to run because it remains an escape, but also because it makes me feel deeply connected to her."

What happens when you invest in exceptional cancer researchers? You help create the conditions for discovery to grow.

For the 2026–2027 funding year, Professor Lucio Frydman of the Weizmann Institute of Science and Professor Irit Ben-Aharon of Rambam Health Care Campus have received ICRF Professorship Awards.

These awards recognize their contributions to cancer research, but they also represent something bigger: the long-term impact of investing in scientific excellence.

By supporting leading researchers, ICRF helps advance knowledge, foster innovation and drive discoveries that can ultimately improve outcomes for people affected by cancer.
