May is Hospice Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of hospice and palliative care within our communities. The Vanderhoof Hospice Society is proud to support individuals and families in both Vanderhoof and Fraser Lake by providing compassionate care, comfort, and support during some of life’s most difficult moments. Throughout the month of May, we are working to raise awareness about what hospice is, the services we offer, and the continued need for community support to help us grow and serve our region.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who came out and participated in our Hike for Hospice on Sunday, May 3rd here in Vanderhoof 💚

We had a wonderful turnout and were truly touched by the level of community support. Seeing so many people come together in support of hospice care means more than we can put into words.

Not only was it a beautiful day to connect, walk, and reflect, but it also helped bring awareness to what hospice is and the care and comfort we strive to provide within our community. As we move through the Month of Hospice, we’re grateful for the opportunity to share more about the support, compassion, and dignity hospice offers to individuals and families.

Thank you again to everyone who walked, supported, and stood beside us — your presence makes a difference 🤍

National Palliative Care Week begins next week.

At Hospice Wellington, this week is a time to recognize the compassion, dignity, and connection that define palliative care. It’s about walking alongside individuals and families through some of life’s most meaningful moments—offering comfort, support, and a reminder that no one is alone.

Our Circle of Care includes nurses, physicians, personal support workers, counsellors, volunteers, and our wider community. Together, we create space for people to live fully, right to the end of life, and to grieve with support and understanding.

Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing stories, reflections, and ways you can be part of this important work.

Because palliative care is not just about end of life—it’s about quality of life, every step of the way.

Hello everyone! 👋

I think we’re a little overdue for a board member introduction—so here I am!

My name is Sonya Webster, and I’m the Vice President of the Vanderhoof Hospice Society, as well as the person behind our social media.

I’ve been involved with hospice on and off since 2019. My passion comes from a strong belief in community—that it truly takes a village, and it’s up to all of us to look out for one another. Whether it’s a small act of kindness or showing up in a big way when it matters most, it all makes a difference.

Many of you may know me through my work, the rodeo world, or just as a busy mom. This community is home to me, and being part of hospice has been such a meaningful way to give back.

In my free time, I enjoy a small homesteading lifestyle—you’ll often find me with my goats, my horse, or my daughter. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen, out on the farm, or with my best friend Miranda. Together, we’re raising our kids the same way we were raised—grounded in community, hard work, and looking out for others.

I also wanted to take a moment to say how incredibly grateful I am. The support for our Willow Suite has been absolutely amazing. Because of YOU, we are fully sponsored for the remainder of 2026—without even needing to reach out to local businesses.

That kind of generosity speaks volumes about the heart of our community.

It never ceases to amaze me how our small towns show up for one another. 💛

Thank you for your kindness, your support, and for believing in what we do. From all of us at the Vanderhoof Hospice —we appreciate you more than words can say.

As the bustle of Christmas quiets and the wrapping paper settles, today offers a gentle pause — a moment to rest, reflect, and simply breathe.

For some, Boxing Day is a time of gratitude and togetherness. For others, it’s a day touched by absence and tender memories of those no longer with us.

However you spend today, please know that you are not alone. The Vanderhoof Hospice Society is here to support our community through both joy and grief — with compassion, understanding, and care.

Take time for yourself today.
