NKDF - Nechako-Kitamaat Development Fund Society Nechako-Kitamaat Development Fund Society provides grants for economic development projects. The Government of B.C. and Alcan Inc.

The Nechako-Kitamaat Development Fund Society assists the people of North West British Columbia, and in particular the Nechako region and Kitamaat Village, by investing in sustainable economic and community stability projects in the area most affected by the Kemano project and the creation of the Nechako Reservoir. each contributed $7.5 million to establish the Northern Development Fund in 1999. T

he investment income generated from this fund supports the NKDF grants program. Each partner has one representative serving on the board of directors. The NKDF is part of the portfolio of the Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training.

The Burns Lake Farmers' Market has a new space for visitors to sit and relax! NKDF - Nechako-Kitamaat Development Fund is pleased to provide funding that was used to purchase a large event tent and picnic tables. The Burns Lake Farmers' Market takes place summer Fridays 10:00am – 3:00 pm. Drop by and let us know what you think of the new seating area.

A big thank you to the Fraser Lake Menshed Society for the hospitality and the tour! NKDF - Nechako-Kitamaat Development Fund Society is pleased to contribute $13,000 towards a project to update the meeting space and transform the Men's Shed bathrooms into a larger, accessible space. If you are in Fraser Lake drop by the Men's Shed storefront open Tuesdays and Fridays 10:00am to 4:30pm.

We have an exciting announcement! We have $615,000 available in grant funding for infrastructure projects, capacity building projects such as events, workshops and marketing, and planning and research projects. If you are a non-profit within our investment area, we want to hear from you! Our next application deadline is July 31, 2026. May was a fantastic month with the Nechako-Kitamaat Development Fund Society Board approving $156,136 for eight new projects!
Ride Burns: $41,200 for the Novice Downhill Trail project.
Stellat'en First Nation: $40,000 for Marianne Louise Memorial Hall Restoration Phase 2.
Saik'uz First Nation: $30,000 for design drawings for the Community Sports Field Renewal project.
The Fraser Lake Men's Shed: $13,000 for renovations.
Lakes District Fall Fair: $11,836 for Fair Grounds Improvements project and $7,500 for Admin Capacity support.
Chinook Emergency Response Society: $7,500 for safety and firefighting equipment for the Emergency Response Trailers.
Burns Lake & District Chamber of Commerce: $5,1000 for the Farmers' Market project.

NKDF Chair Rod Holland says, "We are delighted to support these strong community projects that provide recreational opportunities, support cultural spaces, and assist with emergency preparedness. It is gratifying to play a continued role in the development and enhancement of the region."

NKDF Directors dropped by Southside Health & Wellness Centre for a tour and to check out the new first aid training equipment. NKDF - Nechako-Kitamaat Development Fund Society is proud to contribute funding for these first aid trainer kits.

Grants awarded! At the final Board meeting of the funding cycle, NKDF - Nechako-Kitamaat Development Fund Society directors approved $127,412 in funding for five new projects.

The Vanderhoof International Airshow Society was granted $45,000 to help host the 2026 Airshow on July 25-26, 2026.

The Nechako Senior Citizens Society received $40,000 for the Connaught Place renovation project.

The Endako Rod and Gun Club was granted $25,000 to build two berms to enhance the safety of the shooting range.

The Vanderhoof Flying Club was awarded $9,912 to purchase a replacement engine for the Flying School instruction aircraft.

In the Under $7,500 Grants Program, Rip'n the North Bike Club was granted $7,500 for the Trail Revitalization project.

NKDF Chair Rod Holland says, "we are thrilled to invest in these projects that celebrate community, expand recreational opportunities and provide support for our residents. Projects such as these play a crucial role in strengthening the places we call home."

We were in Fraser Lake this month to present a cheque to the Mouse Mountain PAC. We were delighted to see all the students with their new cross country ski equipment.
It is so gratifying to see the huge smiles from the kids and the pure enjoyment.
It makes it easy for us to say yes to granting funds for these types of recreational projects.
