How well do you know the laws surrounding ? ⚡🚲🛴🏍️

is reminding the public that electric bikes, electric scooters, mopeds (limited speed motorcycles), and pocket bikes are subject to very different legal requirements, and misunderstanding those differences can result in fines or vehicle seizure.

Yesterday Langley City resident Rainer Fehrenbacher led a group of our members on a 15km route covering different parts of the City of Langley. Similar to the tours we've completed in the last 6 months of Willoughby and Aldergrove, this tour gave us the opportunity to experience and discuss the City's cycling infrastructure.

One impressive addition to the Discover Downtown Langley renovation is the number of high quality bike racks added in visible areas along the one-way. The separated bike lanes along several road sections in the City, such as along the City's section of Glover and 204th, are great to ride in.

However, we had mixed reviews about the 51B/53rd Ave connector. This corridor is a very useful route for those moving through the City and onto Surrey. However, the painted lines that define the bike lane provide no physical protection to cyclists from vehicles.

At Langley City's Earth Day tomorrow (10am to 2pm at Douglas Park) a bike valet will provide free, supervised bike parking while you enjoy the event https://www.langleycity.ca/community-culture/arts-culture/events-calendar/earth-day-event

Over the past few years Langley City has provided this service at all their large community events knowing that people will only cycle to their events if they can be confident their bike will be secure while they walk around. Also provided at the bike valet will be registration information for https://project529.com/garage

And we will also be there to chat and connect about cycling in the Langleys.

Tomorrow at City of Langley - KIds on Wheels is a HUB Cycling event available for young children to tryout cycling in a fun environment.

Also attending will be a mechanic from West Point Cycles who can provide a service assessment of your bike. Let them help you understand what might need work or what just needs a tweak.

And HUB Langley will also be there to hear your feedback about cycling infrastructure in the Langleys.
