NTBC field crews have been super busy this June as the field season ramps up!
The South Coast crew has been monitoring fish populations in the Squamish estuary, removing tons of invasive species like Himalayan blackberry, installing new signs that notify people of NTBC conservation areas, and conducting species at risk surveys for contorted-pod evening-primrose plants! They found more than they had ever seen before!
Also, check out the striped coralroot. Our recently found multiple patches on one of our wetland conservation areas!
Striped coralroot is a myco-heterotroph, meaning it has no chlorophyll and gets its nutrients by parasitizing underground mycorrhizal fungi.
