MGA ATLETA! LABAN SA KORAPSYON! SEPTEMBER 5TH VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT!! 🗓️🎉🎉🎉

Join us for Beginner Friendly 6’s or Intermediate R4’s!

Location: Gordon Park (6675 Commercial St)
Date: September 5, 2026
Game Time: 9:30 am ~ 5:30 pm
Registration Fee: $120 per team (Beginner Coed 6’s) // $80 per team (Intermediate R4’s) // $20 Individual Signup
Prizes: T-Shirts and other cool prizes for winners :- )

There will be a bake sale and merchandise tables available for purchase at the tournament. All proceeds from the tournament will be going to Migrante BC + Gabriela BC to support our work fighting for the rights and welfare of Filipinos at home and abroad, whether they are migrants, women, and gender diverse community members. May we see a Philippines free from corruption, may we see a Philippines where children can dream to succeed as athletes ✨✨

In lead up to our Volleyball Tournament, GABRIELA BC and Migrante BC will be hosting a volleyball social at South Memorial Park this Friday, August 14th.

This is a trans-affirming space, and we will be setting up nets for co-ed:

•⁠ ⁠Intermediate R4’s

If you don’t play volleyball, you can learn or you are invited to simply hang out ❣️

GABRIELA BC Statement on the SONA 51.

Shame on the Republic of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police for using excessive force and illegally arresting 51 individuals, mostly youth. The SONA 51 joined progressive protestors and organizations in the Philippines to speak up against corruption and worsening conditions in the Philippines during this year’s People’s SONA!

DISMISS TRUMPED UP CHARGES. END STATE TERROR.

Join progressive Filipinos and organizations in light of President Marcos Jr’s 5th State of the Nation Address (SONA) where he will tout lies about his “successes” and false promises for next year….

In a Philippines where:
📚24.83 million people are functionally illiterate
👩🏽‍🏫88% of teachers are women, often working more than 50 hours per week with more than 50 students per teacher
✏️ There is a national shortage of 165,000 classrooms, and earthquakes have damaged 22,500 classrooms between just 2025-26 alone

GABRIELA BC mourns the billions of pesos stolen by the likes of VP Sara Duterte from the Department of Education, and will rally with and for the Filipino people - especially teachers, mothers, and children, this PSONA.

🇵🇭 Join us as we discuss current events sa Pilipinas - from earthquakes to stolen public funds, and everything in between - in the lead up to President Marcos Jr’s State of the Nation Address. We want to hear your thoughts and talk about how news back home affects us here as Filipina migrants and diaspora. ‼️ICYMI: GABRIELA BC condemns Philippine President Marcos Jrs’ visit to Vancouver from July 1-4 for the newly announced Canada-Philippines Strategic Partnership, which ultimately serves state interests at the cost of ordinary working Filipinos.‼️

These lopsided agreements will not address the root causes of worsening conditions in the Philippines, which is already a largely import-dependent and export-oriented nation. 🛫🛬 All this, because government officials and corporations continue to uphold a system that prioritizes profits over people, even if it means tearing apart families, enabling gender-based violence, and destroying the land for generations to come.

We call on Filipino women and gender diverse people to reject these unequal trade agreements that will only intensify resource extraction and perpetuate violence against women and children. Join us in calling for a national industrial path rooted in sovereignty that benefits Filipino women and their families, NOT foreign interests.

Marcos Jr, the current president of the Philippines and son of dictator Marcos Sr, is visiting Vancouver from July 1-4. He has abandoned and sacrificed the Filipino people, especially Filipina women, gender diverse people, and children, in the pursuit of profit and to serve the interests of foreign capitalists like the US and now Canada…. SHAME!

Now Canada wants Philippine agriculture, minerals, and more resources… with all of that comes land defense and activism, resulting in repression and increasing militarism… SHAME!

We are so excited to have Filipino farmer / peasant organizer and advocate, Danilo “Ka Daning” Ramos, visiting Vancouver as part of a Canada-wide speaking tour to shed light on the current human rights situation in the Philippines, and share first-hand experiences from the Filipino farmworkers movement. The tour comes amid growing concern over the impact of militarization and foreign backed security agreements such as the Status of Visiting Forces Agreement (SoVFA) signed between Canada and the Philippines.
