Attention dance artists! We have opened a call for submissions for TWO programs ⤵️

1️⃣We are excited to once again partner with Montreal's to offer a two-week research-based residency to a BC choreographer. Coming up this January, one choreographer from each province will be invited to engage in an exchange residency in Vancouver and in Montréal.

2️⃣The call for submissions for 12 Minutes Max 2026-2027 is now open! This is a great opportunity to develop a choreographic idea or work in progress.

REMINDER: there is one application deadline for both 12 Minutes Max modules. Artists select their preferred module, but will also connect as a cohort throughout the season.

Artists have access to support and feedback from the facilitators, share work with their peers in the program, and participate in community dialogues at public showings.

👉Application Deadline for ✨both✨ programs: August 10, 2026

What a wonderful showing and discussion from the 12 Minutes Max session two artists last night - there truly was a lot of love in the room1

Thank you to everyone who came out to watch and share their thoughts, to artists Hana Rutka, Kaya Tsurumi, Palak Dhiman, Max Hanic, and to our facilitators Ziyian Kwan and Tasha Faye Evans. We are proud of this long-running program and the unique role it plays in our community. 💜

: Kaya Tsurumi works on her new solo work.

Gathering inspiration from nature - the way flowers grow at their own pace, and how tree branches softly float, Kaya hope to create a dance that inspires growth in the ways we aren’t “there yet”, but incrementally changing with quiet strength.

See her work in progress tonight at 6pm in our 12 Minutes Max studio showing. Free, advanced registration is available on our website.

"I think Ballroom helped fill that thing I was missing and it was like Bi and Q***r and People of Colour. And so I was really gravitating towards it and it was what influenced me to pursue it more and be curious about it more and figure out how do I keep doing it here."

In case you missed it, this month Claire welcomed back dance artist and choreographer Ralph Escamillan (aka Kiki Legend OA Mother Posh Gvasalia and Canadian Mother Posh Basquiat).

Together they discuss his journey in ballroom, his new work My House, how it celebrates Ballroom Culture and the structures within it.

In The Studio: Max Hanic and his team work on a new piece for 12 Minutes Max.

While investigating subtlety in performance, Max is looking at how stretched our awareness can become, how far and wide and deep we can listen to each other and how can decision making within improvisational dance be in a state of response and care for each other.

See his work in progress in our 12 Minutes Max studio showing on June 1 at 6pm. Free, advanced registration is available on our website.
