Saturday, August 22nd at 10am, Web Of Life Society & Captain Scott Legacy Society are teaming up to clean the shoreline of Richmond! We'll be removing debris and trash from the shoreline and trail near the D**e Road/Trail, preventing waste and plastic pollution from entering the Fraser River and subsequently, the ocean and marine ecosystem
~
Including this upcoming event, a series of nature stewardship events will take place in Richmond from summer through to fall, thanks to the City of Richmond with their generous support through Environment & Food Security Grant program
~
All cleanup supplies will be provided, but you are welcome to bring gum boots if you are working on the shoreline (not mandatory). Refreshments will be provided as well. We look forward to this stewardship event at the Fraser River!

On June 21st, Web Of Life Society teamed up with Captain Scott Legacy Society for a cleanup of an important salmon bearing stream and the surrounding riparian forest, funded by the City of Coquitlam - Municipality Neighborhood Small Grant graciously acquired by Brandon Tilt !
~
We pulled shopping carts from the creek, plastics, clothing, tarps, glass, board with nails, and a plethora of items that don't belong in a in a watershed. Between the 3 locations we cleaned that day in both the south and north parts of the creek, we likely hauled at least 200-300 pounds of trash, if not more!
~
If you'd like to come help care for our local forests, streams, and shorelines, follow along and stay tuned for updates! Next cleanup is August 22nd along the Fraser River in Richmond, check the comments for signup link!

Hauling pieces of rusty metal like this from the shoreline feels incredibly rewarding. Sometimes, the things we extract have been in shorelines or forests for decades. Here's a couple of the volunteers from our small group of amazing people on Monday! Can't wait to host another cleanup here in the future ๐ŸŒŠโ›ต๏ธ

Had a fantastic shoreline cleanup yesterday evening in Powell River with some amazing locals that joined to help keep the shoreline and surrounding area clean and remove things like rusty metal, boards with nails, glass, and other plastic debris that would otherwise break down into the marine ecosystem! We likely got a couple hundred cigarette butts and hundreds of little pieces of microplastic. Big props to Dev Berendina Percey who's been cleaning up beaches in Powell River and joined yesterday evening, and hope to collaborate with 32 Lakes Coffee Roasters next year who hosts quarterly cleanup events here! (Follow them for great local coffee and stewardship events)
