After nearly 19 years of extraordinary leadership, Craig Hikida will retire as VP, Donor Services on June 26. Under his leadership, Vancouver Foundation doubled the number of funds and contributed to growing the endowment by more than $1 billion, strengthening our ability to support communities now and for generations to come.

While we’ll miss him greatly, we’re excited to welcome Ruby Ng as our new VP of Donor Services, starting June 8. Drawing on her deep leadership experience in the non-profit sector, Ruby brings a strong people- and partnership-centred approach that will help advance our purpose alongside donors and partners to create lasting impact.

Please join us in thanking Craig for his incredible contributions and welcoming Ruby to Vancouver Foundation!

When Yunuen Perez Vertti moved to Canada, she was looking for a way to connect with her neighbours. On a whim, she applied for a Neighbourhood Small Grant (NSG) to host an art event. What started as a simple gathering not only helped her make connections. It also grew into StrideFest, a thriving arts festival that has brought people together in Burnaby for years.

For over 25 years, NSG has helped turn small ideas into meaningful change across B.C., reaching remote places like Haida Gwaii to host their first Pride celebration, to supporting Latin and Filipino communities in running cultural gatherings in their neighbourhoods.

When neighbours know each other’s stories, they build resilience to solve problems together, one small grant at a time.

Please join us in welcoming Kendra Milne and Jill Earthy to our Board of Directors!

Kendra brings over 20 years of non-profit leadership focused on systemic change, social justice, and community-informed approaches. As Executive Director of Health Justice, they embrace complexity and advance work across housing, economic security, gender equity, and mental health policy. Kendra is excited to support efforts that shift power in philanthropy. Fun fact: they are also a big fan of (surprisingly beautiful) slugs!

Jill is a seasoned executive and governance leader with a strong track record across the public, private, and non-profit sectors. As the inaugural CEO of InBC Investment Corp., she championed inclusive economic growth and strengthened B.C.’s innovation ecosystem. Jill brings deep expertise in finance, strategy, and partnerships. Along with a passion for expanding access to opportunity, she is also lover of travel, having visited four continents in the past seven months!

We’re thrilled to learn from and work alongside Kendra and Jill as we continue to build healthy, vibrant, equitable, and inclusive communities across B.C.

We'd like to extend our deepest gratitude to Susan Grossman, Brenda Eaton, Mary Ackenhusen, and Aftab Erfan for their many years of leadership and service on our Board.

As Board Chair for the past two years, Susan's leadership was pivotal in advancing our purpose work and guiding us through meaningful growth and reflection. For six years, she also contributed across multiple committees, including Governance & People and Grants & Community Initiatives, as well as chairing the Program & Impact committee.

With nearly a decade of service, Brenda has supported our work in countless ways, serving on most committees and chairing both the Grants & Community Initiatives and Investment & Stewardship committees. As a strong supporter of PurposePhil, Brenda played a key role in helping us articulate our moral purpose and find greater alignment between our assets and our vision.

Mary served three years on the Board, chairing the Program & Impact committee and contributing to many others. Throughout her tenure, she consistently challenged us to strengthen our understanding of the impact of our work.

During her three years on the Board, Aftab brought a thoughtful and insightful perspective through her work on the Program & Impact and Governance & People committees. She encouraged her fellow members to more deeply integrate JEDI into their work and strengthened conversations across a wide range of topics.

Susan, Brenda, Mary, and Aftab, we can't thank you enough for your dedication, leadership, and lasting impact on Vancouver Foundation. We wish you all the best as you continue to do incredible work in our communities!

Your gift to Vancouver Foundation doesn't just help once, it keeps working, year after year.

Think of it as a community savings account that never runs out. It grows over time, funding youth mental health programs, community kitchens, affordable housing, and needs we haven't even imagined yet.

Here's what makes it powerful: your neighbours with lived experience recommend where the money goes.

Give to our Community Impact Fund or focus areas, and your generosity flows where it's needed most. Today, tomorrow, and decades from now.
