It was wonderful to connect with businesses, community leaders, and fellow non-profits at the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade’s Night of Non-Profit Engagement.

We are always looking to build new partnerships through our corporate and group stewardship programs, which give teams the opportunity to support local conservation while enjoying a meaningful day outdoors.

A female Common Merganser and her five ducklings were recently spotted exploring Lost Lagoon and the Coal Harbour seawall. 🐀

Like Wood Ducks, Common Mergansers nest in tree cavities, but families often move to new areas after the ducklings hatch.

These young birds are quick learners- ducklings can begin catching small aquatic prey at an early age and stay close to their mother for protection, sometimes even hitching a ride on her back as she swims!

50 juvenile herons were counted on our most recent survey! πŸ’™

The trees have leafed out earlier this year than last, obscuring our view of more nests and more juveniles to count. But while the nests are harder to see through the foliage, the chicks are becoming easier to spot as they grow bigger! 🐣

Pacific tree frogs (officially known as Pacific chorus frogs) were once thought to be extirpated from Stanley Park, but they’ve slowly started making a return πŸ’šπŸΈ

These tiny frogs are much easier to hear than see. They stop calling and freeze when they sense movement, making them incredibly difficult to spot in the wild.

If you’re visiting local parks in search of them, remember to stay on designated trails and keep pets leashed to help protect sensitive habitat.

This little one was spotted during our monthly bird survey!

Its hatchling season at the Pacific great blue heron colony here in Stanley Park! 🐣

These herons are incredibly dedicated and equal-opportunity parents, taking turns between guarding the nest and foraging for food.

Splitting the works keeps their hungry chicks well fed as they grow rapidly over 2 months before fledging the nest.
