ZOOM or
IN PERSON
- two ways to experience FANTASTIC LIVE MUSIC!

JOIN US at the Quaker Meeting House tomorrow evening, July 14, the Vancouver Folk Song Society, or get online with our Zoom streaming the performances live.
Here's the schedule;

7:00 pm Pacific: Zoom session opens
7:20 - 7:30: two Harmony Jam singalong songs
7:30 - 8:30: open stage performances
8:30 - 8:45: break
8:45 - 9:30: more open stage performances
9:30 - 10:00: featured performance: Shadowfax

Shadowfax is an alt-folk band from North Vancouver, BC, with a style that incorporates influences from folk ballad, bluegrass, shoegaze and jazz. Their music draws from various mythologies and folk tales – from Orpheus and Eurydice to Rip Van Winkle and will o’ the wisps – punctuated by rotating instrumentation including pedal steel, horns, and the occasional theremin, and employs lush arrangements with lyrics favouring fantastical narratives that tackle themes of environmentalism, the complex feelings of grieving imperfect loved ones, and personal accountability for failed relationships.

In 2023 Shadowfax collaborated with JUNO-nominated producer Adam Iredale-Gray and JUNO-winner Chris Gestrin to release their debut album, Orpheus. Since then they have performed with such heavyweights as Alain Johannes of the bands Eleven, Them Crooked Vultures, and Queens of the Stone Age, Laila Biali, and Brad Turner. Since releasing Orpheus they can be found weaving spider silk bonnets in nearby glades. Be sure to get lost in a web of fancy yourself by watching their recent Once More With Feeling session and spotting other live performances.

It is with great sorrow that we have to share that our dear friend and VFSS Life Member, Henk Piket, has died in Princeton.

Here is Cheryl Piket's telling:
"He sang Wild Mountain Thyme at Thomasina's (Princeton restaurant), passed out from a heart attack and died on the way to hospital in the ambulance at 8:50pm."

Henk was a man of many qualities. We have enjoyed his strong voice and guitar playing, his wide repertoire of songs, and his good company over many, many sessions and singarounds over the decades.
He was a generous musician, diligent Board member, and a good friend and passionate supporter of Folk Music and the VFSS.

His steadfast and dedicated support has seen the VFSS steer a successful course through many challenges and changes.
The VFSS would not be what it is now without his input.

Our heart goes out to Cheryl and all of Henk's family and friends in this great loss.

We will have many chances for us all to remember Henk in gratitude for all he brought to the VFSS and to promoting, sharing and keeping alive the music we all love, and to celebrate the inestimable contributions he made to our community over the last 50+ years.
Until then, feel free to post your memories of Henk on this post, and share your photos and stories.
