The right to make decisions about our own healthcare is fundamental. But what happens to that right as our cognition changes?

Health Justice has released a new report looking at how healthcare consent laws work in long-term care and whether the current system protects the rights of older adults.

Drawing on the experiences of people directly affected, the report sheds light on challenges within the current system and explores alternative approaches that better respect older adults' rights, choices, and autonomy.

As a resident at Providence Health Care's Youville Residence in Vancouver, Joe shapes his day. He comes and goes as he wants, spends time with the people he enjoys, and decides what's on the menu (Roast Beef & Yorkshire pudding are top of the list).
