Member Spotlight: Dan Sakaki

Finding Joy in the Journey

When Dan Sakaki joined Toastmasters in 2016, he wasn't new to public speaking. His career already required him to deliver presentations and speak before large audiences. Yet he felt there was something missing.

"I wanted to learn how to have fun doing it," Dan explains.

"Toastmasters has taught me how to enjoy the process of connection with an audience."

Over the past decade, Dan has witnessed something remarkable—not only in himself, but in countless fellow members. "For the past ten years, I have been constantly witnessing transformation," he says. "From those who were terrified to first open their mouths to those who now speak regularly in their professional lives, members grow, develop, and refine in front of our eyes."

Like many Toastmasters, Dan's most meaningful growth came
not from delivering a perfect speech, but from embracing an imperfect moment.

"One of the biggest shifts I experienced was when I became emotional during a speech," he recalls. "I had to stop and gather myself. What it truly did was help me connect with my audience."
That experience taught him an important lesson about authentic communication.

"Learning how to be vulnerable while speaking—and being okay with a speech that doesn't play out exactly as you hoped—was transformative for me."

As a member of Unicorn Tribe Toastmasters, Dan has discovered that communication is about much more than speaking skills.
"Unicorn Tribe is unique. It's an international club with members from all over the world. It has shown me the power of connection."

Regardless of geography, Dan has experienced the strength of a community that consistently supports one another.
"We have rallied around members whether they were in Los Angeles or China. It's a powerful community and a safe place to simply be ourselves."

For anyone considering Toastmasters but feeling uncertain, Dan's advice is straightforward: "Just do it. Visit a meeting or two. You'll experience members at all stages of their communication and leadership journeys, and you'll see what true support looks like."

Dan's story reminds us that Toastmasters is not simply about becoming a better speaker. It's about building confidence, creating meaningful connections, embracing vulnerability, and discovering the joy that comes from personal growth.

Congratulations to Dan Sakaki, Unicorn Tribe Toastmasters' May Social Media Challenge Member Spotlight.

📖 Unwritten Chapter
Every one of us is living a story.
Some chapters are filled with success.
Some are filled with lessons.
Some are chapters we'd rather skip.
But the most exciting chapter may be the one that hasn't been written yet.
What goal are you ready to pursue?
What conversation could change your future?
What new possibility is waiting just beyond your comfort zone?
Join Unicorn Tribe Toastmasters on Wednesday, June 3 as we explore "Unwritten Chapter"—an evening of inspiring speeches, thought-provoking discussions, and personal growth.
Whether you're an experienced speaker or simply curious about Toastmasters, we'd love to welcome you.

✨ Leading by Example – One Conversation at a Time ✨
What does leadership really look like?
At Wednesday's Unicorn Tribe Toastmasters meeting, we discovered that leadership isn't always about titles or positions. Sometimes it's about finding your voice, supporting others, stepping outside your comfort zone, and being willing to grow.
Members explored our theme, "Leading by Example," through inspiring speeches, thought-provoking Table Topics, and supportive evaluations. Highlights included:
🌟 Carmen Pereira's powerful presentation, Turning Panic into Poise and Chaos into Clarity
🌟 Amy Zhou's uplifting speech, Live, Love, Laugh
🌟 Engaging Table Topics that challenged members to reflect on what makes Unicorn Tribe such a unique learning community
🌟 Recognition of members who demonstrated creativity, humor, leadership, and communication excellence throughout the evening.
One of the questions posed during Table Topics was: "What makes Unicorn Tribe different from other groups?" The answers revealed something special—a welcoming environment where people encourage one another, celebrate growth, and create meaningful connections across cultures, professions, and generations.
Whether you're looking to become a more confident speaker, a stronger leader, or simply connect with positive and growth-minded people, Unicorn Tribe offers a place to learn, practice, and belong.
🌈 Guests are always welcome.

🌸 Spring Voices Blossom was truly a night of growth, courage, laughter, and connection at Unicorn Tribe Toastmasters.

Members and guests shared stories that inspired, reflected, and entertained — from the beauty of nature in Chiang Mai, Thailand to powerful lessons on speaking with confidence. Thought-provoking Table Topics sparked creativity and heartfelt reflections, while our evaluations encouraged speakers to stretch, refine, and shine.

A special congratulations to Veronica Armstrong, recipient of both the Spark of Creativity Award and the Golden Voice Award, and a warm welcome to our newest member, Neethu Pramod, who officially joined the Unicorn Tribe family this week.

One of the highlights of the evening was celebrating that Unicorn Tribe has once again achieved President’s Distinguished Club status — a reflection of the supportive, growth-focused culture our members continue to build together. 🌟

If you’ve ever wanted to become more confident speaking in meetings, networking events, presentations, interviews, or everyday conversations, this is a wonderful time to visit. You do not need experience — only a willingness to grow.

What a wonderful evening at Unicorn Tribe Toastmasters on Wednesday as members and guests came together to celebrate Mother’s Day with warmth, laughter, and meaningful connection. From heartfelt Table Topics to inspiring speeches, the meeting reminded us how powerful storytelling can be in bringing people closer together. Wendy Xu’s speech, “What Cats Taught Me About Trust,” offered thoughtful reflections on vulnerability and connection, while James Li’s speech, “Life Is Happening for Me,” encouraged us to see life’s challenges through a lens of growth and possibility.
We were also delighted to welcome three guests — Luna Xing, Jase P. Chau, and Jean Xu — who added wonderful energy to the evening. The Table Topics session sparked both humor and heartfelt moments as participants reflected on mothers, memories, and imaginative gifts ranging from castles to spaceships. The evening was filled with encouragement, thoughtful evaluations, and the spirit of mentorship that makes Unicorn Tribe so special. Congratulations as well to our award recipients who brought creativity, laughter, and inspiration to the meeting. It was truly one of those evenings that showcased the supportive and uplifting culture of Unicorn Tribe Toastmasters
