โœจ The 14 Peaks: A Life Above 8,000 Meters โ€” Without the Mask โœจ
Weโ€™re beyond thrilled to welcome Azim Gheychisaz to our upcoming club social!

Azim is one of the very few humans on the planet to summit all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters without supplementary oxygen โ€” a feat considered the ultimate benchmark in high-altitude mountaineering. Climbing even one of these giants โ€œcleanโ€ is extraordinary. Climbing all 14? Itโ€™s legendary.

Born in Tabriz, Iran, Azim has become one of the countryโ€™s most influential mountaineers and a guiding force for the next generation of elite Iranian climbers. As the first Iranian to complete all 14 Eight-thousanders without oxygen, his achievement carries profound national pride and cultural significance โ€” even earning recognition from President Rouhani.

Join us for an inspiring evening as we explore what it truly means to live above 8,000 meters. ๐Ÿ”๏ธ

๐Ÿšจ Save the date! ๐Ÿšจ

Our next social is happening Tuesday, Nov 11 โ€” starting with our AGM (7:30โ€“8:00 PM) followed by an Avalanche Awareness Presentation with Brent Hillier from Canada West Mountain School!

Brent will share updates from the CAA, changes to terrain evaluation processes, and the latest thinking on group dynamics when touring or snowshoeing in hazardous terrain.

If youโ€™ve been a member for a year, please attend the AGM โ€” we need 25 members for quorum to make it official.

"We often found ourselves balancing between two options: more exposed sections on relatively solid rock near the center of the ridge, or less exposed paths that were a chaotic mix of loose rock and talus. While we generally preferred the exposed but stable ridge crest, we occasionally
dipped into side gullies and ramps when they offered a more reasonable alternative" [Page 16]

๐Ÿ“ Baldwin & Cooper Park is officially open โ€” honoring climbing legends Jim Baldwin & Ed Cooper, who made the first ascent of the Grand Wall in 1961.

Their vision helped shape Squamish into one of the worldโ€™s premier climbing destinations. This park stands as a tribute to their courage, legacy, and the spirit of our community.

Weโ€™re excited to share that with the help of our amazing volunteers from BCMC, SAS has completed a new bridge over the river in Paradise Valley! This crossing leads to the Crystal Method boulders area, making access easier and safer for the climbing community.

This project was made possible thanks to you - our members! Membership fees directly funded the materials, and our dedicated volunteers put in the hard work to bring it to life.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers from BCMC who hauled, built, and sweated it out. Also thank you to Tenderfoot Creek Hatchery, whoโ€™s land it is and for their advice on the best solution to minimize the environmental impact to the fish in the area.

Your support truly builds bridges - literally!
