Vancouver Aboriginal Health Society Culturally grounded health and community care, by and for urban Indigenous people in Vancouver.

Located in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, our mission is to provide holistic wellness services and programs rooted in respect, safety, and Aboriginal cultures and knowledges. Indigenous cultures are the foundation of our approach to health and wellness. We incorporate all four aspects of the Medicine Wheel into our services, programs, and community building. As such, we can provide guidance through culture and create opportunities for individuals to move into a space of thriving. Our programs and services include:
• A Primary Care Clinic that is responsive to the unique needs of our communities
• A Dental Clinic with by-donation options for those without dental coverage
• Mental, emotional, and spiritual supports
• Indigenous Early Years child and family services
• Cultural and land-based healing activities led by Elders and Knowledge Keepers

We have a full week of Culture programming ahead, including bannock and yeast bread making, West Coast regalia making, drum making, Community Connection Circle, and our Thanksgiving Community Feast on Friday! 🍂

🥕 Thursday is The Peel: Coming Together for Our Community Feast.
The Peel is about making the preparation part of the community experience. Community members are invited to join our Culture Team to peel and chop vegetables, prepare food, visit, share stories, laugh, lend a hand, and contribute together to the meal we will all share the following day. ❤️

It’s more than preparing food. It’s about connection, belonging, and coming together as a community.

Vancouver Aboriginal Health Society is honoured to stand alongside our community partners, families and advocates for Sisters in Spirit, as we gather to honour and remember Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two Spirit+ people.

Join us on Sunday, October 4 from 1 PM to 4 PM at Grandview Park for an afternoon of remembrance, awareness and community.

On September 30, VAHS joins communities across the country in honouring the children who never returned home, Survivors of residential schools, their families, and all those who continue to be impacted by the residential school system.
We remember. We honour. We stand with Survivors. 🧡

A proud and historic moment for Vancouver Aboriginal Health Society! 💙

VAHS is proud to be part of Lháw̓atem ta úxwumixw - ɬew̓ətəm tə xʷəxʷil̓məxʷ / First Nations Indigenous Primary Care Network, the first population-based Primary Care Network for Indigenous peoples in British Columbia.

This is an important milestone for Indigenous-led health care and reflects the commitment, collaboration and hard work of so many people working to strengthen culturally safe, accessible and community-centred primary care for Indigenous peoples.

Last night, members of our team came together for the event and AGM to celebrate this important work and the relationships that continue to move it forward.

We are incredibly proud to be part of this journey and excited for what lies ahead for Indigenous health care in BC. 💙

Join us at Grandview Park as we gather in truth, honour Survivors, celebrate resilience, and walk forward together.

The day will include cultural and contemporary performances, an Indigenous market, and an Honour Walk beginning at 11:30 AM. Bring your drums, wear orange, and come together with community. 🧡

This event is proudly hosted in partnership by MVAEC, Slaxin Lelum, Vancouver Aboriginal Community Policing Centre Society (VACPC), Vancouver Aboriginal Child and Family Services Society, Vancouver Aboriginal Health Society (VAHS), Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre, Salal, REACH, and Britannia.

This week we have Beading, West Coast Regalia Making, Pow Wow Regalia Making, Sweatlodge Ceremony, Tea Time and Pathways to Healing: Addictions and Recovery Circle.
