In recognition of National Indigenous History month, we honour Renald Rabu (1946 - 1992).

Renald Rabu was a groundbreaking Métis artist and choreographer who was the first Indigenous Artistic Director of a professional ballet company in Canada. Born in Saskatchewan, Rabu discovered ballet in Kamloops, trained internationally, and danced with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens before focusing on choreography and directing. Rabu lead the Pacific Ballet Theatre from 1980 to 1985, nurturing emerging talent and bringing international works to BC stages. In 1986, Pacific Ballet Theatre became Ballet BC.

We are floating on cloud nine after a wonderful week of our 51st Spring Seminar! The studios here at Scotiabank Dance Centre were filled with energy and joy. We were inspired by the hard work, discipline and dedication of all the dancers and wonderful guest teachers, Kit Holder and Mimmo Miccolis.

56 Dancers joined us from 30 Dance Schools across BC! For 6 days students were immersed in Ballet Technique classes accompanied by Siping Ma, as well as learning original choreography set on them by Mimmo Miccolis to a score composed by Francesco Germini and performed live by David DiTomasso. On the final day the students shared their work in a performance for parents and guests at the Faris Theatre.

At the culmination of the Seminar, Kit and Mimmo selected 16 students from across the Levels to receive scholarships worth a total of $20,000.

We are grateful to all parents and teachers who helped the dancers experience this opportunity and can’t wait until next year!

✨We will be announcing Spring Seminar 2027 auditions in the fall 🩰✨
