Adam's Apples Foundation

Adam's Apples Foundation Adam’s Apples Foundation is a non-profit organization established to address and prevent mental health issues amongst youth. He died of an accidental overdose.

AAF facilitates connection through mental health literacy programming for both elementary and high school students. 🍎 Many good things are born from loss. The Adam’s Apples Foundation is one of those. Adam Hryhorchuk was a young man who came from a loving family, went to good schools and had a full life ahead of him. at 22 years of age. Adam was more than a drug death statistic. He was kind. He wo

uld happily chat with anyone. Clever, exceptionally engaging and intuitive, he was naturally comfortable with those who were popular or those who were ignored. He was blind to status. Adam reached down and pulled people up. In his honour Adams Apples was created. We celebrate the good he stood for and want create an environment in schools and teen centers that emulate his nature. By placing a fresh bowl of apples in a gathering area in every school or community center, our plan is to initiate the Water Cooler effect, enabling youth to gather and chat, even for a few minutes a day and encourage sharing with other kids that may some days have had no one to talk to.

Happy Pink Shirt Day!

Today we wear pink in support of a movement rooted in kindness, inclusion, and standing up against bullying. What started as a simple act of solidarity by two students in Canada has grown into a powerful reminder that even small actions can spark meaningful change.

By choosing compassion and respect, we help create communities where everyone feels safe, valued, and supported. 💗

As the holiday season arrives, we’re reminded of how powerful connection, kindness, and rest can be. December often brings celebration and togetherness, but it can also bring stress, pressure, and moments of loneliness. This month, our initiative focuses on creating space for gentle expectations and compassionate self-care.

Throughout December, we invite you to slow down, reconnect with what truly matters, and honour the full spectrum of emotions that this season can bring. Whether you’re finding joy in small traditions, navigating grief, or simply trying to stay grounded, you deserve care and support.

🎄 Goals for this holiday season:
- Encourage simple practices for reducing holiday stress.
- Acts of kindness to lift others & strengthen connection.
- Highlight stories of resilience, hope, and community.
- Share resources for seasonal loneliness and overwhelm.

🎁 Foundry BC – Mental-health support, walk-in counselling, tools for stress and emotional wellness.

🎁 Here2Talk (BC Post-Secondary Students) – 24/7 counselling by phone or chat.

🎁 BC Bereavement Helpline – Support for grief, including during the holidays: 1-877-779-2223

🎁 Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA BC Division) – Workshops, seasonal mental-health articles, community programs

💛 This season, let’s remember:
- You are allowed to rest.
- You are allowed to set boundaries.
- You are allowed to feel exactly what you feel.

Today is National Grief and Bereavement Day. 🕯️

On this day, we pause to honour the deep and often silent experience of loss—whether that’s the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, or any major change that leaves a void.

Let’s light a candle to honour the love that we remember, the love that surrounds us now, and the love and healing yet to come. It’s a gentle reminder that grief is not something to “get over,” but something to be experienced, supported, and shared.

By acknowledging grief openly, we remind ourselves and each other that loss is a journey shared, not one we face alone. This day helps bridge the gap between individual loss and collective compassion.

Invisible Disabilities Awareness Week (October 19–25) is a national-level initiative in Canada dedicated to shining a spotlight on disabilities that aren’t immediately visible — such as chronic pain, neurological conditions, mental-health challenges or other impairments that people may not “see.”

The hope is to build awareness, reduce stigma, promote understanding, and encourage inclusive practices — especially in workplaces, schools and the community. 🌎👩🏻‍🤝‍👩🏽

This week is an opportunity for organizations, educators, employers and individuals to pause, ask how our systems treat “invisible” conditions and commit to making our spaces more accessible, understanding and supportive. ☺️🍎

Resources:
- Disability Alliance BC (DABC)—Offers advocacy, one-on-one assistance with disability benefits applications (including PWD designation) and cross-disability supports in BC. Useful for people with invisible conditions who may need help navigating the system.

- Vancouver Disability Solutions Network (VDSN)—A network of 200+ organizations in Vancouver region that work together to identify and address service-barriers for people with disabilities (including invisible ones). Good for local community collaboration, advocacy and finding groups.

- OneAbility — Focused on inclusive physical activity and recognizing that invisible barriers exist (i.e., people may have disabilities that aren’t obvious). Good for awareness: that inclusion isn’t just about mobility-aids but all kinds of barriers.

- Family Support Institute of BC / Find Support BC—A searchable directory/database of disability-related services in BC (including for families, transitions, etc.). Ideal for individuals to locate specific supports in their region.

- Invisible Disabilities Association (IDA) – Although U.S.-based, they provide global resources and discussion around invisible disabilities: what they are, how they affect lives, and how to advocate.
