Compassion isn’t the absence of truth.

Nor is truth the absence of compassion.

Somewhere along the way, the Church has often been tempted toward one of two extremes: either apologizing for God’s Word in an attempt to love people, or weaponizing God’s Word in the name of truth. Neither reflects the heart of Jesus.

Throughout the Gospels, Christ consistently demonstrated that truth and compassion belong together. He confronted the proud, drew near to the broken, and ultimately bore our burden Himself on the cross.

Biblical compassion doesn’t ignore sin—but neither does it stand at a distance from sinners. It moves toward people with truth, grace, and a willingness to “suffer with” those who are hurting.

As one of The Union’s core values, we want to be known for that kind of compassion. We pray God would give us the wisdom to discern, the courage to speak the truth in love, and the heart to walk alongside those searching for hope.

One of the most dangerous doctrines in the Church today isn’t legalism—it’s antinomianism.

You may not know the word, but you’ve probably encountered what it looks like.

Some call it cheap grace. Others call it greasy grace. It’s the idea that because Jesus forgives our sin, obedience is optional and holiness is unnecessary.

The Apostle Paul faced accusations of teaching this very thing, yet he fiercely rejected it. Today, however, many professing Christians have embraced a version of grace that celebrates forgiveness while neglecting transformation.

What’s even more concerning is that this message is often amplified from pulpits, platforms, books, and podcasts.

The grace of God doesn’t merely pardon us—it trains us, transforms us, and empowers us to live differently.

“Jesus never mentioned homosexuality.”

It’s a statement often used to suggest that Jesus either approved of same-sex relationships or that Christians should no longer view them through the lens of historic biblical sexual ethics.

But does silence actually equal endorsement?

As followers of Jesus, we’re called to look not only at what He didn’t say, but at what He did say—about Scripture, discipleship, holiness, marriage, and the purpose of our bodies.

The question isn’t simply, ‘Did Jesus mention homosexuality?’ The deeper question is, ‘What vision of human flourishing, sexuality, and covenant relationship did Jesus affirm?

Time for a walk & talk.

Should we take this month as an opportunity to speak boldly on Gods design for sexuality and identity?…1000% YES!

Annnd!…we need to be thinking strategically about how we as leaders and pastor can do a better job of preaching on these topics throughout the year. It’s laughable to think that people’s struggles with sexuality would be limited to one month so why should our preaching on it be?

Shame and seshual brokenness run hand in hand. Unfortunately, when we stay in the dark about our own unique struggles the shame only intensifies. This fuels a cycle that keeps people from being able to experience how the Lord meets us in that place of vulnerability and honest disclosure.
