📦✨ Got a closet full of fandom treasures? Shelves overflowing with collectibles? A “spare room” that stopped being spare sometime around your third hobby pivot? 😅

Fandom Bazaar, coming up on July 11, still has a limited number of vendor spaces available for:

🧸 Personal Vendors
(people selling items from their homes or personal collections)

🏪 Retail Vendors
(people selling from a physical retail storefront)

So if you’ve been thinking:
🤔 “I really should thin out my anime/game/book/comic collection someday…”
…this might be your sign. 😉

⚠️ Limited availability:
For *Personal Vendors* we have all table sizes available
For *Retail Vendors* we have only 8ft tables available.
(*Retail* requests for 6ft tables or 3ft half-tables will be waitlisted.)

🎨 *Makers* and 🤝 *Community Groups* are still welcome to apply for the waitlist as well.

What makes VCON feel like *VCON* to you?

That’s one of the big questions WCSFA is exploring right now as we look at the future of VCON and how we continue rebuilding it in a visible, sustainable way.

We’ve put together a new community feedback survey asking about:
🎭 the parts of VCON that matter most to people
🎲 how our current events connect (or don’t connect) to the VCON identity
🏨 thoughts on smaller or transitional VCON-style events
🪪 naming and branding ideas for the future

No decisions have been made — this is part of an open exploration and community discussion.

Whether you’re a long-time attendee, someone newer to WCSFA events, or just curious about where things might go next, we’d love your perspective.

⏱️ ~5–10 minutes
📅 Survey closes May 31 at 11:59 PM

WCSFA is putting out a Call for Concept Sketches for the visual identity of our Fall 2026 event!

Our current theme is:
**Pick Your Punk: Living Through the 21st Century**

The theme is about speculative futures: the futures we are already living in, the futures we may be forced to live through, and the futures we still choose to build.
Cyberpunk and solarpunk are obvious touchstones, but we’re also interested in broader interpretations: space nomads, junkpunk, nomadpunk, retrofuturism, DIY survival, climate hope, tech anxiety, community resilience, beautiful messes, grimy futures, hopeful futures, and an occasional duct-taped spaceship.

At this stage, we are NOT looking for finished art. We are asking artists to submit early concepts: sketches, thumbnails, wireframes, rough layouts, mood boards, or other visual directions.

The selected artist will create:
• A 9” × 12” poster
• A double-sided 4” × 6” postcard/flyer
• Adaptable elements for social media banners, on-site signage, and related event materials

Submissions must include a visual concept and written description, including layout notes and an indication of where key event information — e.g. event name, date, location, Guest of Honour name/photo, and other details — would go. Concepts may be submitted in colour or in black and white with colour swatches and/or palette notes. (For complete details, refer to our design requirements document linked below.)

This will be a PAID + GOODS-FOR-SERVICES opportunity. Our working budget is approximately $250 plus event-related compensation, with flexibility for the right artist and concept. Event-related compensation may include complimentary tickets, a complimentary or partially complimentary vendor table, and clean copies of the printed materials.

Submissions are open to anyone except current WCSFA Board members.
Artists are welcome to submit more than one concept.

**AI-generated images are NOT ELIGIBLE**.
Submitting AI-generated imagery at either the concept or final-art stage will disqualify the submission. We do recognize that many digital art apps include AI-assisted tools for tasks like background removal, subject selection, or colour matching and those tools are not automatically disqualifying; the creative work itself must be artist-created, not generated by AI.

Deadline: end of day Sunday, May 31, 2026

Join us at our online kick-off and open recruiting meeting for the WCSFA Fall 2026 Event planning committee!

This open session is your chance to:

* Learn how the event planning committee works
* Explore the different roles you can take on
* Ask questions and get a feel for what’s involved
* Start to help shape the event itself — including theme, name, and tagline

Whether you’re a seasoned organizer or just curious about getting involved, everyone is welcome. No prior experience is required — just interest, enthusiasm, and a willingness to contribute. All skills are valuable, and members of the WCSFA Board will be there to **mentor and support** committee members along the way.

We’re looking to build a strong, collaborative team from the start. Committee members should be prepared to take on a role and contribute over the coming months as we work toward the event. The level of effort varies by role, but whatever you take on, we ask that you’re ready to **follow through and see it to completion** (life happens — we get it — but commitment matters).

If you’re even a little bit interested, come check it out — no pressure, no obligation, just an opportunity to get involved and help create something fantastic.

---
FB events have been created for both meetings:

* Wed, May 6: WCSFA Fall 2026 Event Committee Kick-Off & Recruitment #1
* Tue, May 12: WCSFA Fall 2026 Event Committee Recruitment #2

The meetings will be held on Google Meet – the meeting links are available from the events.

Note: These are open recruitment meetings — future planning meetings will be for committee members only.

📣 We need your input for Fandom Bazaar 2026

Planning for this year’s Fandom Bazaar has hit a few unexpected bumps, and we’re taking a moment to make sure we’re choosing the best path forward.

The event is still scheduled as announced, but nothing is set in stone. We’re actively evaluating options to make sure the experience is strong for both vendors and attendees.
We’d really appreciate your input.

We’ve created a short survey (takes just a couple of minutes):

⏳ Deadline: Monday, April 27

We’re working on a tight timeline, so responses over the next few days will have the biggest impact.

Thanks for being part of this community — it truly makes a difference 💜

As some of you may be aware, planning for this year’s Fandom Bazaar has hit a few unexpected bumps along the way. The board made the decision to move forward with the event, but as we’ve dug further into the details, it’s become clear that we should pause and make sure we’re choosing the bes...

Hello fans and followers!

We are very pleased to announce that the Fandom Bazaar, everyone's favourite geek-friendly flea market event, will take place again this year on Saturday, June 6, 2026. For full details, visit https://fandombazaar.ca

Vendor applications are also open: https://bit.ly/fbzr-2026-vendor-application

We've got a lot of tables available, and whether you'd like to divest yourself of well-cared-for used items from your personal collection, sell brand-new items you've made or worked on yourself, or offer new commercial / third-party items, it's all fair game.

Today is a sad day for the WCSFA community.

Chilam was a core participant at VCON, a regular panelist and exhibitor in the Art Show (even running it for a few years). He was a wonderful individual, taken from us far too soon, and will be greatly missed.

RIP Chilam

Today we bring you sad news.
This morning we lost one incredibly brilliant and talented man,
and a good friend.
Chilam Artist passed away this morning. Chris has been on the phone, on and off, with his brother discussing protecting things like his writing and how they will manage his art pieces, while we wait for a coroners report. We have gone back and forth with memories and handling feelings. His brother does not know how to get into his FB, or even how to find the password for his Kindle publishing. Please be patient with us as we work through the hoops and unpredictable sensations.

If anyone wishes to leave notes, wishes or thoughts here (or on the Jade Dragon Pirates), please do so. As we will not be able to return to BC for a funeral, we will be making a video and would love to add some of the things you would like to say here.

He was 62 yrs young.

R.I.P. Chilam
