It is with a very heavy heart that I share the passing of our dear friend and my dog-rescue partner, Bonnie Marshall.
Bonnie and I first met while rescuing a blind and matted black cocker spaniel ahe named Paige who reminded her so much of Abbey, her very first cocker. From that moment on, we were a team. Together we rescued over a hundred dogs through the years, and Bonnie went on to save countless more. She had a gift with animals and no one could ever tell her “no,” or that something wasn’t possible. Her kindness seemed endless.
Bonnie had a smile and a laugh that could light up an entire room. She cared deeply about every dog, learning their stories, where they came from, and making sure they found the perfect home. She gave so much of her heart to rescue work, and the world is truly dimmer without her.
As I looked at her house one last time and drove away, I couldn’t help but smile with tears pouring down my face. That beautiful home was the place where so many dogs first felt kindness and love for the first time…where Bonnie helped make them whole again. It will always hold that magic.
I take comfort knowing she was met on the other side by so many cocker spaniels who knew her love, along with her beloved Gary, whom she missed every single day.
In honor of Bonnie, I’d love for you to comment with the name of the cocker spaniel you adopted from her. Let’s fill this space with the lives she touched and the love she gave so freely.
And to my dear friend Bonnie. Love you, miss you deeply, and see you again one day. You made this word better.
