African Descent Festival 2025 Cancelled
Vancouver, BC - August 8, 2025 - The African Descent Festival, scheduled to take place on August 9th and 10th at English Bay Beach in Vancouver, British Columbia, has been cancelled. Due to the Vancouver’s Board of Parks blatant, inequitable and unjust refusal to grant the event the permit to use English Bay Beach Park, the festival organizers have made the difficult decision to cancel this year's event.
The African Descent Festival, now in its 11th year, aims to celebrate the cultural diversity of people of African descent in Vancouver, promoting unity and recognition among all ethnic groups and communities. The festival typically features live music performances, cultural showcases, food vendors, and more, attracting thousands of attendees.
"We are disappointed to announce the cancellation of the 2025 African Descent Festival. We were looking forward to celebrating our culture and heritage with the community," said Yasin M. Kiraga, Founder of the African Descent Festival. "We appreciate the understanding and support of our sponsors, volunteers, and attendees."
Further information and updates will be shared on the festival's website and social media channels.
