SOFT SKILLS. HARD EVIDENCE. Turning Human Capital Development into Measurable Impact for Organizational Culture and ESG

For decades, organizations have invested heavily in soft skills training—but one fundamental question has remained difficult to answer:

"Did the training actually produce lasting behavioural change?"

A group of pioneering companies is setting a unified standard for workplace etiquette and intercultural competence, which is essential for both operational excellence and ESG reporting:

1. Marlow Navigation Philippines, Inc. (MNPI)
2. MSC Shipping Manning Services, Inc. (MSC-SMSI)
3. United Marine Training Center (UMTC)

where professionals recently completed a World Civility Index (WCI) program led by Licensed IITTI Master Instructor Carolina D. Tan, AICI CIP.

Marlow has long emphasized that investing in people is central to its success. This initiative reflects that commitment by exploring how professional development can be recognized through observable behavioural competencies.

One future objective could extend beyond delivering of this initial training program, and pave the way for further, sustained development in creating verifiable evidence that individuals are actively investing in professional behaviours such as:

· International business etiquette
· Professional communication
· Empathy
· Intercultural awareness
· Respectful workplace conduct

These competencies are increasingly recognized as essential for building stronger organizational culture and preparing employees for intercultural exchange, especially for companies in this group with employees in various countries.

As sustainability reporting evolves around the world, environmental ("E") and governance ("G") metrics have become increasingly standardized. The Social ("S") dimension, however, remains one of the greatest measurement challenges. Organizations continue to ask:

"How can we demonstrate that investments in people are producing real behavioural outcomes?"

The World Civility Index represents one possible approach—providing a shared framework for recognizing and documenting continuous professional development through observable behavioural competencies.

Thank you to Prof Doug Atha of Trinity Western University (TWU) of your words of encouragement with IITTI's participation in students' awareness of how integrity and ethics play a key role even in seemingly technical fields.

Together TWU and IITTI suggested an "integrity layer" to be added to the current carbon capture industry, where (1) a wide education for operators in resilience, empathy, ethics to build an 𝗲𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, and (2) institutionalize integrity by creating infrastructure via what we call "𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗛𝘂𝗯𝘀" (two of which are being built in Hong Kong-Macau, China and Richmond-Vancouver, Canada).

We are honoured to be invited back by McGill University to host another session on AI ethics.

AI is making authentic human skills more critical, not less.

After Geoffrey Hinton, Nobel Laureate, the "Godfather of AI", left Google, and then Mo Gawdat, the Chief Business Officer, also left to tell the world there is an emergency, and that there is the urgent need to train AI to be benevolent. Mo is saying the way to do this is to have citizens being civil as role models, just like parents, for the AI.

But just telling people to be "nice" won't do anything. There needs to be some kind of universal measurement so that people could see each other doing it.

That's where the World Civility Index comes in.

A credentialing system on people's soft skills. It is by measuring that people can see real progress.

What are the actual steps?

Trying to get citizens to act civil by telling there is an existential threat from something that cannot be seen or touched would be next to impossible!

But by appealing to people's own self-interests, where they get "rewards" based on the World Civility Index points system, it would be quite possible.

In fact, it is already happening. The main focus is to tell what are the benefits.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗖𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗲𝘅

Overall, the World Civility Index credential is being used by employers for hiring purposes, schools for admission, restaurants for giving the best seats, landlords for giving preferential rental priorities, and dating websites for recommended matching partners.

Congratulations to Ms. Challika Pothisarattana, Vice President of Operations at DHL Thailand, on successfully earning the IITTI Business Level 1 Certification on March 23, 2026.

The IITTI Business Level 1 program recognizes commitment to professional excellence through training in business etiquette, corporate communication, workplace civility, and professional conduct, culminating in a formal written examination.

Upon successful completion, participants earn seventy (70) World Civility Index points, reflecting their commitment to continuous personal and professional development.

As organizations increasingly invest in human-capital development, aggregated World Civility Index data may provide additional indicators that complement workforce-development and ESG-related reporting initiatives.

We would also like to recognize Ms. Apailuck Tantrabandit ("Ae"), Licensed IITTI Trainer in Bangkok, Thailand, whose dedication and leadership have helped cultivate professional excellence among participants for many years.

𝗔𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀

Congratulations to Ms. Gabriela García who successfully passed the IITTI Business 'Level 1' exam, Dec 9, 2025.

Gabriela is the creator of the Fusion: Essence & Image Method in Argentina. She is a speaker at conferences, workshops, and training programs for companies and image professionals. She also provides one-on-one guidance to women, helping them communicate their essence through the way they dress.

All IITTI Business Level 1 certificate holders go through training in (1) business attires, (2) corporate communication and (3) dining etiquette before the formal written exam. This allows all recipients to have the "muscle memory" as well as academic knowledge.

All recipients earn seventy (70) World Civility Index points to show future employers, school admissions.

All training was provided by Dalila Canario, Licensed IITTI Trainer in Lima, Peru. Thank you Dalila!

IITTI World Civility Index has been invited by MIT Presencing Institute's Regenerative Futures Lab to talk about indigenous youths working with non-indigenous youths to face a common challenge in climate and land management.

Here Patrick Chun, co-founder of IITTI, answering Eva Pomeroy,
Research Lead at Presencing Institute, and talks about what question to ask for a regenerative future.

The aim is to create meaningful careers for the 21st century. It is based on providing an "integrity layer" for the carbon-capture industry.

One more step to the "Humanity Hub Richmond" concept. (IITTI established a Humanity Hub in Hong Kong-Macau region in 2025, and now a second Hub is contemplated for the Vancouver/Richmond region of Canada.)
