FYI: Increased Acupuncture Benefits for Veterans in BC
Good news for Veterans accessing acupuncture services in British Columbia!
Effective August 1, 2026, acupuncture coverage under the Medavie Blue Cross insurance benefits plan has increased:
• Initial and subsequent acupuncture visits: $125 per session — up from $120
• Acupuncture report requests: $62.50 — up from $60
These increases help provide greater coverage for Veterans accessing acupuncture care.

📢 TCM Licence Numbers Are Changing September 1
CCHPBC has finalized the transition to new licence numbers for TCM Practitioners and Acupuncturists. CCHPC has informed major insurers and other organizations of the transition.
Starting September 1, 2026, TCM licensees should check and update their licence number with organizations and systems where it is used.
⏰ All licensees must transition to their new licence number by March 31, 2027.
For a helpful list of organizations you can use as a checklist and for easy click links to help you complete your to-do list starting September 1, check ATCMA's blog https://atcma.org/blog/new-cchpbc-licence-numbers-transition-begins-september-1 (members only access).
This change does not affect your licence status, history or standing. The CCHPBC Public Registry remains the established method for verifying your licence.

💬 Want better acupuncture coverage? Your patients can help make the
case.

Many patients wish they had more coverage for acupuncture through their
workplace benefits. But did you know that employers generally choose the
benefits packages they offer — including the level of acupuncture
coverage — based on what they are willing to provide and pay for?

That means employees have an important voice. 📣

If employees want better or different health benefits, they need to let
their employers know. When enough employees speak up about the value of
acupuncture coverage, employers have a stronger reason to review their
benefits options.

That’s why ATCMA has created a flyer for members to share with their
patients. The flyer gives patients information they can bring to their
employer or workplace benefits decision-maker to request better coverage
for acupuncture services provided by licensed TCM professionals.

The flyer highlights how improved access to acupuncture may support:

✔️ Pain management
✔️ Stress management and well-being
✔️ Reduced health-related absences
✔️ Employee satisfaction

📊 A little late—but too important not to share!

Back in June, ATCMA surveyed TCM practitioners across British Columbia
about recent regulatory changes and the future of our profession.
Somehow, we forgot to share the results, but we didn't want to miss the
opportunity because your feedback deserves to be heard.

The survey reveals a profession that is engaged, concerned, and looking
ahead.

Practitioners shared concerns about:
💰 Rising registration, insurance, and compliance costs
📖 Uncertainty around recent regulatory changes
🌿 Protecting core TCM competencies, including herbal medicine and
dietary therapy
⚖️ The need for greater clarity around scope of practice and
professional standards

There was also strong support for modernizing the profession, with
practitioners calling for expanded scope options such as Point Injection
Therapy and other advanced competencies through additional training.

These findings will help guide ATCMA's advocacy as we continue working
to protect the integrity of Traditional Chinese Medicine, improve
regulatory clarity, and strengthen the profession for both practitioners
and patients.

voice matters.
