Tri-Service Ball is an event that is run by the NCOs of 47 RCSCC Captain Vancouver and has been occurring for over 70 years. As the name suggests, Tri-Service Ball started out as an actual formal “military ball” with uniforms and formal attire (Black Tie/White Tie dress code) in 1945. For over 70 years, 47 Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Captain Vancouver Chiefs and Petty Officers’ Mess has hosted
this event, first beginning off as an event for all cadets within the unit, and then gradually opening up to becoming an event for all cadets within the Tri-Service (Sea, Army, Air). Senior cadets who have staffed at Cadet Summer Training Centres (CSTCs) primarily gather at this event to strengthen or rekindle the friendships that they have made while serving as staff cadets aboard the CSTCs, while many junior cadets gather at Tri-Service Ball to rekindle the friendships that they made while taking courses at the CSTCs. As time flows, Tri-Service Ball has evolved from a rigid “military ball” to a prom-like event, where guests may choose to wear their uniforms or opt out for a modern look (ball gowns, tuxedos, etc.). Aside from the dress code that has evolved, the music that is played, as also evolved. Guests may request (prior to the event) songs of various genres, such as R&B, hiphop, or electronic dance music — if you would like to hear some old fashion jazz / classical music, we suggest you attend the event when it starts. As of recent years, we have opened up the event to cadets and their friends outside of cadets, so that they may also join us in this longstanding tradition. Without the continued support and attendance of cadets and their guests, we would not be able to continue to put on our annual Tri-Service Ball. We would like to thank everyone that has continued to attend, and we look forward to seeing you attend in the following years!
