Dear Karate BC Members,

Karate BC is pleased to announce the launch of the Women in Refereeing (WIR) Mentorship Program, a new initiative focused on supporting the recruitment, retention, mentorship, and development of female and gender-diverse referees across British Columbia.

The WIR Mentorship Program aims to foster leadership, confidence, and community within officiating by connecting developing referees with experienced mentors who can provide guidance, support, and insight throughout their refereeing journey.

This initiative is open to all Karate BC members who identify as female or gender-diverse and are interested in becoming involved in refereeing, developing their officiating skills, or supporting the next generation of referees within our community.

Participants will be paired based on experience level, goals, and availability. Whether you are new to refereeing or an experienced official interested in mentoring others, we encourage you to get involved.

Through this initiative, Karate BC continues its commitment to equity, inclusion, leadership development, and the long-term growth of officiating within the province.

For more information, please visit our website.

Karate BC is pleased to support the upcoming Victoria Open Tournament and Referee Clinic hosted by Kenzen Karate. We encourage our members, athletes, coaches, officials, and clubs to take part in this excellent grassroots event and help make it a strong success.

The Victoria Open provides a valuable opportunity for athletes of all levels to gain competition experience, connect with the karate community, and continue developing skills in a positive environment.

The accompanying referee clinic is also a great opportunity for officials to expand their knowledge and practical experience.

Referee Clinic: Saturday, June 6 – Camosun College
Tournament: Sunday, June 7 – PISE Gym

Please visit their website for more information, including online registration for athletes, coaches and referees.

We encourage everyone to share this with athletes, coaches, and club members who may be interested.

Karate BC is proud to support events that strengthen and grow our karate community throughout the province.
