Karate BC is pleased to announce that Toshi Uchiage and Pam Ross have been selected as Team BC’s karate coaches for the 2027 Canada Winter Games, taking place in Québec City, Québec.
Toshi Uchiage brings extensive experience as both an athlete and coach. A highly accomplished kata competitor, Toshi is a multi-time Canadian national champion, Junior Pan American Champion, Senior Pan American medallist, and World Championship bronze medallist. He has also served in key coaching roles with Karate BC, including as BC Team Head Coach, and brings deep technical knowledge, national-level experience, and a strong understanding of athlete preparation for major Games environments.
Pam Ross is one of Canada’s most respected karate coaches and high-performance leaders. She has served in senior roles with Karate Canada, including National Team Program Lead and Senior Kata Coach. Pam has supported athletes at national and international levels and is recognized for her athlete-centred leadership, technical expertise, and long-standing contribution to karate in British Columbia and Canada.
Karate’s inclusion in the Canada Games program is still relatively new. The sport made its Canada Games debut at the 2023 Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island, giving Canada’s top developing karate athletes a major multi-sport Games opportunity. Karate will return for its second Canada Games appearance at the 2027 Canada Winter Games in Québec City, continuing to build the sport’s profile within the Canadian sport system.
The Karate BC Board, Executive Director, and High Performance Committee have the greatest confidence in Toshi and Pam’s ability to lead Team BC athletes with professionalism, care, and competitive excellence as they prepare for Québec 2027.
