Join the UIC Social Justice Initiative and Gender and Women’s Studies for a powerful sound performance featuring a lineup of experimental sound artists responding to CURRENT’s founder Soledad Fátima Muñoz’s () exhibition, We’re Not All Here/No Estamos Todes.

Through live sonic interventions, sound artists Regina Martinez, Jared Brown, A.J. McClenon, & Carissa Lee engage with themes of political erasure, memory, and resistance, amplifying the silent traumas left in the wake of state-sanctioned violence and civil neglect.

Holistic Sonic Spheres is an interactive community workshops series where traditional Elders, knowledge keepers & holistic practitioners from local Indigenous & diasporic communities engage in ancestral knowledge sharing and participatory hands-on activities.

The intention of this project series is to fluidly integrate traditional holistic medicine seminars that are interwoven with low-tempo electronic bass music & visual artistic performances for communal catharsis & healing

Their work combines cultural roots with contemporary sounds, inviting listeners into a rich sonic landscape. x/o’s performance features live improvisation on the traditional Vietnamese monochord instrument, the đàn bầu, combined with electronic production and layered effects. Blending traditional sounds with modern technology, the performance explores the intersection of cultural heritage and contemporary sonic expression.

Flora Yin-Wong is a sound artist who uses rudimentary field recordings, granular synthesis, traditional instrumentation such as yangqin, koto, gamelan, and kemence, underpinned by influences from club culture. Through these disparate elements, her work channels her interest in philosophical and psychological themes such as faith, obsession, and ritual. She will present a new show using vocal mantras, along with granular synthesis via GRM Tools to break down found sounds.

This is the last week to see the exhibit at so hopefully some of you who haven’t visited yet can go before the Oct 4th and grab your WM Publications/Catalog.

The catalog design aims to be a tangible resource and archive of the different projects realized by Woven Memory in the last three years. It invites readers to immerse themselves in each section through the stories, images, and voices of each project; allowing them to become active participants in the ongoing dialogue surrounding memory and resilience. All resources are written in English and Spanish.

📍 You can see this interactive piece in Woven Memory / Memoria Entretejida exhibition by Soledad Fatima Muñoz , running until October 4. Visit the exhibition Tue-Fri from 12-6pm!

📍 This map developed within the framework of the project, currently contains the data of the 98 protagonists of Londres 38, a clandestine torture and extermination center in Santiago Centro.

📍 This info was collected in collaboration with the archives department of Londres 38, people from the community and ex-political prisoners in workshops held in November 2023.

📍 The map is designed as a tool that seeks to visualize the trajectories of forced disappearance, and also to identify patterns that due to the number of cases located in different geographies have been difficult to materialize and compare.
