In 2005, Chef Andrea Carlson, alongside Chef Gabe Meyer and Chef Merri Schwartz, piloted our very first classroom program at Champlain Heights Elementary 💚

We caught up with Andrea to hear about those early days, what inspired her to get involved, and what her connection with Growing Chefs has meant over the years.

For more than two decades, Growing Chefs has been helping kids connect to food—how it grows, how it’s prepared, and how it sustains us. What began with a handful of chefs volunteering in classrooms has grown into a leading voice for food literacy in BC, partnering with schools to give children hands-on opportunities to experience the whole food cycle, from seed to plate to compost. 🌱🥕🍎

And over the years, we’ve had plenty to celebrate, too! 🎉

Our signature kitchen party, From Farms to Forks, will be back on October 4! It’s a one-of-a-kind celebration of local food and drink from some of Vancouver’s most talented chefs (Andrea gives a special shout out to Claire from Livia and Tushar from Kavita 💞). This year, we’re raising the bar—and our fundraising goal—with a goal of raising $200,000 to support programs that provide nutritious food, learning, and connection to children, youth, and families across the Lower Mainland.

With your help, we know we can reach this goal—and surpass it!

🎟️ Get your tickets and join us in celebrating food, community, and 20+ years of Growing Chefs.

Early bird ends TONIGHT at midnight! This is your last chance to save 20% on tickets to From Farms to Forks–presented by RBC.

For our final episode of our Meet the Chefs series, we sat down with Andrea Carlson of Burdock & Co., Harvest Community Foods, and Bar Gobo.

Andrea’s connection to Growing Chefs goes all the way back to the beginning. As a founding board member and one of the chef volunteers in our very first classroom program, she has been part of the Growing Chefs story from its earliest days.

In this episode, Andrea shares more about her Moon Menu Series—the ever-evolving menu concept at Burdock & Co. that celebrates hyper-seasonal, local cuisine and the incredible ingredients of our region. 🌱 As we wrap up our Meet the Chefs series, we’re grateful to Andrea for being part of the Growing Chefs community from the very beginning—and for helping shape the organization into what it is today.

🍽️ Grab your tickets to the kitchen party of the year! Our early bird period has been EXTENDED until August 31! Save 20% on general admission and get your ticket for $200 before the deadline—tickets go up to $250 after August 31. This year, Andrea has donated gift cards to all three of her restaurants to the From Farms to Forks auction—you don’t want to miss out 💛

Meet the chefs behind From Farms to Forks—Presented by RBC!

For the next episode of our Meet the Chefs series, we’re sitting down with Amélie, co-founder of Anh and Chi and Good Thief, two vibrant Vietnamese restaurants known for their fresh flavours and thoughtful approach to food and community.

Amélie shares the story behind bringing both restaurants to life, as well as two meaningful innovations that emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic: Mẹ’s Marketplace, her line of artisanal sauces and provisions, and the restaurants’ Reservation by Donation program, which Growing Chefs was a part of in Spring 2026.

While Anh and Chi and Good Thief joined us at last year’s From Farms to Forks, Amélie experienced the evening from a different perspective—as a gala guest and committee member. In this episode, she shares some of her favourite highlights from the night and what makes the event so special 🥂

On October 4, Anh and Chi and Good Thief will be part of the phenomenal lineup of Vancouver restaurants crafting special dishes and cocktails at the From Farms to Forks gala.
