Today, as we honour those who gave their lives for peace, we also remember the ongoing struggles faced by our brothers and sisters in Sudan, Congo, and Gaza—where families continue to suffer the cost of war.

As we reflect in British Columbia, may our remembrance not end with silence but move us to stand for justice, peace, and humanity across borders. Let our hearts also turn to ongoing humanitarian crises in Sudan, Congo, and Gaza—where countless lives remind us that the work of peace is not finished.

Lest we forget. 🌺

As we gather this Thanksgiving weekend, our hearts are full of gratitude—for community, for belonging, and for the beautiful bridges that connect our Ugandan roots to our Canadian home.

From coast to coast, many of us are far from family, yet surrounded by new families we’ve built through friendship, shared meals, and cultural connection. Today, we give thanks for the journey—for resilience, laughter, and the spirit of obumu (togetherness) that keeps us grounded in who we are.

May this season remind us to care for one another, uplift our communities, and celebrate the abundance that comes when we walk together.

🧡 From all of us at Uganda in BC Social Society, we wish you a joyful and peaceful Thanksgiving!

🇺🇬 Happy Independence Day, Uganda! 🇺🇬

Today, we celebrate 63 years of resilience, unity, and pride in our beautiful homeland. From Kampala to British Columbia, we honour the spirit of our ancestors and the vibrant Ugandan community that continues to thrive across the diaspora.

May this day remind us of our shared roots, our enduring culture, and the power of coming together—Obumu, Ubuntu, and Love for Uganda. ❤️💛🖤

Today, on Truth and Reconciliation Day, we stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities across Canada. As an immigrant-led community, we recognize that we live, work, and celebrate on the stolen lands of Indigenous peoples.

We honour the children who never made it home, the Survivors of residential schools, and the families forever changed. We commit to learning, unlearning, and walking together in reconciliation.

Let us reflect, wear orange, and take action towards a just future. 🧡🧡🧡🧡

✨ Thank You! ✨

Our hearts are full of gratitude to everyone who made this year’s Kwetu Cultural Festival a beautiful success — Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw Squamish Nation Knowledge Keepers, MLA Lynn Block, our panellists, moderator, vendors, volunteers, and community. Together, we celebrated voices of the diaspora, honoured the lands we gathered on, and uplifted our shared stories.

We look forward to building on this spirit of unity and celebration again next year. 🙏🏾❤️
