Introducing the CPD Sustainability Playbook: Circular Production Design Best Practices for Film and Television 🎬

The Canadian Production Design Association is proud to release the first sustainability guide written specifically for production designers, art directors, and set decorators — covering everything from sourcing hierarchies and material specifications to carbon tracking and wrap planning.

Because sustainability in the art department doesn't start at wrap. It starts at the first sketch.

Released today — the last day of Earth Month — with a reminder that this work doesn't stop on May 1st. Every production is an opportunity. Every decision counts. 🌳

This guide was made possible with the proud support of Canada Media Fund, Ontario Green Screen, Ontario Creates, xoTO, and the City of Toronto.

The session online, moderated by PDC members Fiona Donovan and Miranda Cristofani of the International Advocates work group, is aimed at designers who are ready to move beyond the work itself and take control of how their careers are positioned.

The “Wide Shot” of a designer’s career is often the most important one. While your agent is in the room pitching your talent, the professional ecosystem you build around your work—your digital presence, your press strategy, and your accolades—is what transforms a “working designer” int...

Fresh off Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch, Production Designer Todd Cherniawsky joins us for an in-depth conversation about bringing the beloved animated classic to life in a new form. Blending technical precision with emotional storytelling, Todd discusses the creative process behind reimagining the world of Lilo & Stitch — balancing nostalgia with fresh visual language, and grounding fantasy in authenticity and heart. The conversation also touches on his broader design philosophy and how collaboration, innovation, and a deep respect for story continue to shape his approach to world-building.

In today’s film and television landscape, visibility can be as important as vision. This panel dives into how production designers can effectively promote their work, from building press relationships to positioning for awards contention — all while supporting the success of their projects. Featuring perspectives from a production design publicist, a nominated designer, and a creative industry advocate, the discussion explores how self-promotion can be a win-win: raising both your professional profile and the recognition of your team’s artistry on screen.
