TOWN HALL ALERT!

Come and join us as we deliberate and continue working on a Downtown Eastside Housing Plan! The Carnegie Housing Project team has been consulting various groups in the neighborhood over the past 2 months to know and understand what people want from a potential Housing Plan. We will share back what we have learnt, and you can share further inputs too!

We will have dinner and beverages available, and a place to connect with your neighbors and make new friends!

Homelessness is a national issue, not just a municipal one. The Federal Government must invest in the long term goal of building more shelter rate housing across the country, including so-called Vancouver. 

In her Policy Brief to the Federal Housing Advocate, Dr. Carolyn Whitzman explains why we need $40 Billion dollars in funding to end homelessness and how we can effectively achieve the goal of ending homelessness in an equitable manner. We have the tools, we must use them!

Help us make a Downtown Eastside Housing Plan!

On May 6, Carnegie Housing Project is hosting a town hall to discuss and debrief the ongoing wave of gentrification in the neighborhood, and how we can resist it as a community. Join us and share your ideas!

When: 6 PM, 6 May

Where: Carnegie Theatre, 401 Main Street

We will go over the rezoning of the Downtown Eastside-Oppenheimer District (DEOD) that happened last year, as well as the recent wave of demovictions in SROs across Granville Street.

Dinner and refreshments will be provided.

Join us on January 31 as we watch and discuss Rabble Rousers (2022), a documentary based on the Cooper Square Committee and Frances Goldin's decades long fight against gentrification in New York.

This documentary screening isn't just a community event, but a celebration of our organizing efforts in December, as well as an opportunity to discuss strategies and tactics across borders and time.
