🏒💙 An evening at Rogers Arena!

Our CHSC families had the opportunity to enjoy an exciting evening at a Canucks game, thanks to the generous ticket donation from Canucks Sports & Entertainment.

It was wonderful to be there celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Canucks for Kids Fund and to share such a special experience with our families.

The first few weeks back at the Centre are all about getting to know one another, reconnecting with friends, and settling into our classroom routines. 💛

Our children are learning the rhythm of their days, getting to know new teachers and classmates, and discovering the little things that make their classroom feel like their own.

There’s lots of listening, chatting, playing, exploring, and getting to know each other along the way. It’s been a wonderful start to the year, and we’re looking forward to all the learning and connections still to come! 🌱

Back-to-school time! Don't forget to do a listening check before your child's first day back.

As children head back to the classroom, there’s more to getting ready than new backpacks and school supplies. For children who are deaf or hard of hearing, making sure their hearing technology is working properly can help set them up for a successful school year.

Before the first day back, take a few minutes to:

✅ Check that hearing aids or other hearing devices are working properly
🔋 Make sure batteries are fresh or rechargeable devices are fully charged
👂 Check earmolds, tubing and other equipment for damage or wear
🎙️ Make sure remote microphones/FM or Roger systems are working and connected
🧼 Give devices a quick clean and visual check
📝 Make sure your child’s school team knows how their hearing technology works and what to do if there’s a problem

Why does this matter? More than half of hearing technology may not be functioning properly on a given school day, with dead or weak batteries among the most common issues.

A quick listening check can help identify problems before they become a barrier to listening, learning and connecting in the classroom.

💡 Pro tip for parents: Build a simple hearing technology check into your child’s morning routine, just like brushing their teeth or packing their lunch. 🙂

Families of children who are deaf or hard of hearing, your feedback is needed.

The Ministry of Education and Child Care is seeking feedback from families of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students who attend their local school district instead of the BC School for the Deaf.

The experiences of families who have chosen a Listening and Spoken Language pathway are an important part of this conversation. Your feedback can help shape future supports and services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing learners across British Columbia.
